** Inglis opens the account for souths **
A great win recorded at redfern oval this afternoon with South
Sydney stars shining through a scrappy game of crucial errors by
both teams. Police also made several drug busts, 3 armed robbery
arrests and controlled 7 redfern riots before NYC game had even
finished...
Broncos came out fired up and put souths under the hammer for
the first 10. But a poor charge down by mcollough saw souths get
a repeat set on the 50m line and on the 3d tackle a sweeping
back line play started the season off in attacking style for the
bunnies with Reynolds going over in the corner. The arm wrestle
began to take hold, but in the 13th souths went for the same
slick set play again only to be held up in the corner. Crocker
took a lovely ball on the next touch to score untouched in the
corner & make it 8-0.
The wind played havoc for the souths goal kicker as they kept
the broncos in arms reach if the game. The fans were on their
feet when mccolough took an intercept pass down the sideline
with reynolds chasing hard. Macca had a rush of blood and
grubbered ahead only to have it go over the sideline.
On the 39th the crowd was livid over a beautiful 6 offload pass
with the last back in field to tyrrrel as meritt was heading
over the sideline. This saw souths lead at 0-14 for oranges.
Coach AceAv rally'd the troops with a good spray in the 2d half
and both teams began to cleanup their act. Broncos failed 3
chances to go over and the fans were screaming for blood after
Hannant shoulder charged a defender to offload nicely for
Hoffman. 6-14
Souths interchanged at the right time and muscled up on defense
to force a kick deep out of Brisbanes half and have Inglis bring
it back and show how a top form player on fire, scores a single
handed try in the 63d. 6-20
This should have broken the ponies backs. But they stayed
composed and pressured souths into the sideline on their own 20.
Broncos threw everything at them until the 4th tackle where
Mcollough burrowed his way under in the 69th for a close finish
to the game. But the wind once again gave the goal kicker grief
and souths led by 8 points with 10 to go.
Good defense and strong kick returns along with nice error'd
offload pressure kept souths neck in front into the 78th, before
a frustrated Parker was caught pushing suttons face into the
turf 45m out. A penalty goal ended the game with the final
score 10-22 for Souths.
Coach AceAv stated "we had our chances and failed to execute.
Some tired players just not doing the little things right after
a heavy pre season and Souths star players exploding out of the
blocks are what made the difference here. We'll regroup and be
ready for next weeks game, was good to get away with all players
still with 10 fingers & toes"
Great game South Sydney. Lag Free is always a treat.

Well done Souths. AceAv was talking you up before your game. He
thinks you will go far in the comp. I think you will go as far
as Manly then you will go down big time!!!! :P

haha -It was home teams choice so I added it was Redfern Oval
-Don't think its actually an option, but was on stadium random
and it was a small stadium. -Plenty of glue sniffers too ;P

Good write up Ace.
I forgot about that grubber by McCollough. I was cheering when
he kicked it, you score there and it changes the game
completely.

Yeah learned a huge lesson there. I was definaltley going to get
tackled.. Should have just tried a step/tackle break and take
the 1st tackle to work my way over. That grubber was poorley
aimed and a big nono for a 1st grader unless it was 5th tackle
or siren sounded etc... A good loss is better than an easy win
sometimes ;)
