Your Gameplay Tips
By: AceAv Date: January 21, 2013, 11:42 pm

Been a few tumble weeds around here and me being bored at work
doesn't like it!
I wanted to discuss some tips/strategies with you all and find
out what techniques you recommend to improve your game.
I'm far from expert, but my top tips would be:
-Avoid sprint as much as possible to begin with. There will be
that period in the 30-60 min mark where your players will just
struggle to tackle and react to your controls fast enough
-Observe the winds and practice 40/20's. The amount of game
changing plays that have resulted in these are astounding. On
the other side: the amount of games I've lost rushing them and
kicking out on the full...
-Use your tactics wisely and switch through players smartly on
defense. Nothing is more frustrating then quickly changing
players to the wrong one and losing crucial field position
because the one you selected needed to change gaits.
-Kick for field goals if you get to the 4th/5th near their
25-30m zone. You either get 1 pt and a repeat set, or they catch
the ball on their 5m line or its a 20 restart which can initiate
your interchanges and reset your line to take the first 1-2
tackles easily.
-Avoid play footy in your half ALWAYS! -get it out of there ASAP
and play footy down their end to force mistakes!
Would love to hear some tips from all of you. I have had the
privilege of playing most of you and I can say every playing
style is different on attack and defense for each of you!

I don't want to give too much away :P
I have found that you get more of a roll on when hitting it up
instead of throwing in from side line to side line. Hitting it
up tires the opposition down taking them longer to get back
behind the 10. You also get away with quick dummy half runs. It
might take a few sets of 6 for it to be effective though.
Don't be afraid to kick the ball. The more you have a mind set
that you can kick the ball on the 4th or 5th tackle the better
you will become. Sometimes you might not even consider kicking
the ball, or it becomes a last thought. That is when you get
caught out.
Take control of your defence. If your opponent has made a break
and your D is on the ropes I like to choose a player, move him
into position then quickly move another guy if I am short out
wide. This has improved my defence out of sight (or so it
feels). Also cram your D when they play the ball a metre out
from your line. 9 times out of 10 they will run from dummy half.
Press up and up again to tighten up your line then control a
player near the ruck. Spam X like a crazy man.
Make sure you interchange players, especially injured players. I
have seen may times injured players kept on the field. They
become hopeless when they are injured.

I'd never tried to play without my finger permanantly on sprint.
It's really hard without sprinting. I must be playing a totally
different way to you ace. I would have to work out what you are
doing to see if the players end up fresher in the second half.
Maybe that is a good play.
I would say trying to figure your opponent out is key. And if
you get a lead by doing some good plays well forget about doing
them again cause they will be waiting for you to try. C America
taught me this. You have to mix it up as much as you can. Some
players have the great ability to not go for the player but the
pass he is going to throw. It's something I need a fair bit of
work on. Untill then. Kick deep and try to not let them out of
there 10 for as many tackles as you can.

Do you have speedy guys all over the park or only on the bench?

Well all my backs will be speedy then 5/8 and half back will be
speedy and good ball skills then from 8 to 13 they will be big
and also have some speed to them. Then bench will have one big
guy the rest speedy guys. So when all the forwards from other
team are getting tired and slower witch is just after half time
i will bring bench players on. While you were playing me you
prob noticed i only sub 4 times witch was after the half

Too many times while in defence I receive the ball from a knock
on/intercept only to press X to tackle and grubber the ball
back. It is so frustrating especially when you have been
defending your own line for one or two sets.
Is anyone else still doing this? How did you learn to over come
it?
I prodominantly tackle with X as O gives away too many
penalties.
Another area I am yet to master is when I receive the ball from
a intercept my player stops, with the change in camera. I run
backwards for a second killing my momentum. The great players
run away for the try.
Any tips boys?
I have enjoyed playing a few of you that throw the wicked dummy
passes. I can't remember who is was the other night, but he
threw a dummy one way then another the other way and shifted it
off. It was like a real game of footy. I was blown away. Anyone
have any inside how to pull this off?

benz -- for the intercepts, I found that changing the camera
switch to 'when tackled' helped immensely. It means you
intercept the ball but the camera stays the same. Thus, you run
toward yourself (down) rather than away (up). I don't think I
ever scored a try from an intercept until I tried this.

SHH devoid!
-I been pretty happy with my lack of intercept throws lately,
but god it's a relief when you throw one online and the opponent
takes it, turns around and then gets tackled!
A couple more Ace Tips:
-This game is definitely a game that requires stamina from your
players, but also mental stamina from you. On Wed I had a good
nights sleep, fun day at work, visited my wife at work and got
in the good books, before racing home for a good 30 min bike
ride, shower, a/c, pot of peppermint green tea and a few hours
of league. I was amazed at my game. Particularly with my
prediction and reaction time. Defensively I was sprinting off
the mark the exact second after the ball is played and shoulder
charging the defenders and forcing mistakes or making tackles,
cover defense was also rock solid.
From dummy half I was making great choices too, a lot of it was
predicting where the opponent was going to focus defense on and
countering this. Towards the end of the game, when it's easy to
give up if your behind, or relax into the lead, -when you know
your opponent is going to throw the kitchen sink at you.
Determination to win really kicked in and I was winning at the
death or putting the nails in the coffin. This was probably my
best day and I stayed up late that night to burn a little more.
Come Thursday I had starved myself of sleep and maybe got 5.5
hours, work day was long and hot and I didn't bother to do a
workout in the avo. I jumped on the Sony and hit up some 10 min
games and found a real lack of focus in my game. There were
still some patches of brilliance. But then some real head
scratchers that caused frustration and even more mistakes. The
close games where I was in front, I was throwing away at the
death and I just found a general lack of hunger to win and
playing with that determination...
So in short my tip of the week. Particularly to you if you've
got a big 20 min game coming up. Prepare well for it like a
footy player would on game day. Eat right, sleep well,
caffeine, exercise, get some sex and turn up fresh and willing
to play a rock solid game!
