Who is your provider and what connection type parra?
Do you run a blue cable into your ps3 from the modem or
       wireless?

I'm not sure who the provider is/what type of connection. I'll
       check later.
I've always done it wireless, but I can try out using the blue
cord, there's one sitting there and it's easily within range so
I'll plug it in, should that improve things?

ya definitely will help keep a stable connection. Most modems
have pretty good wireless output, but running the chord will
eliminate a lot of risks with disconnects etc...
How are you finding most the games in terms of lag from you and
       the other player?

Okay I've got that plugged in now..
Umm, it's pretty inconsistant, like I'll get a batch of really
good games without any lag, then get a batch of crappy lag
       games.
Also, sometimes the games deteriorate and get laggy towards the
       end, while starting lag free.
Next time I'm playing I'll see if the cord has done much to
       help.

Ya also find out who your ISP is and what connection it is.
There are some tweaks you can do easily.

Sometimes I find it helps to restart the modem every now and
       then.
Also check you aren't downloading in the background whether it
be a demo on psn or whatever own the PC. If my wife decides to
go on YouTube while I am playing it can slow things down a tad
