Yeah, my first guess was Nydia (rhyming with Lydia). As soon as
I said, having learned from various bad baby names
threads/articles, I knew it was going to be pronounced like
Nadia. Cue internal eyeroll. At least the girl was polite in her
correction.

I went to school with a girl whose mother named her Chlamydia.
She was an honor student and worked her butt off for college
scholarships. As soon as she hit 18 she legally changed her
name to Lydia. Last I heard she was a lawyer.
I will say that dating in high school was NOT easy for this poor
thing.

Holy crap! That was mentioned as a joke in a Discworld novel as
a near miss for a little girl's name: at the last minute, the
mother decided that Sally would be easier to spell.
That book also gave us Total Biscuit and Yodel Lightly as
potential names. Possibilities...

While I don't care for those names, the baby I really feel sorry
for is Tuba. At least they didn't go for Sousaphone

I used to work with a woman named Cairne. Now - would you ever
in a million years guess that to be an alternate spelling of
Karen? Not me, but that's how it's pronounced.

At least little Sousaphone can go by Sue ;)
Cairne brings to mind dogs and graves. Neither one is likely
the first impression poor Cairne would like to give people.
