It's SATURDAY! And we're OUT OF TOWN

The Cap'n been job hunting for nearly a year and half now. He
had an extremely promising interview on Friday with a local
municipal court (not the same as the municipality I work for).
They want to move quickly on this, but there's some pre-hiring
requirements first, including a background check. Apparently,
they want to move so fast on this that the Powers That Be
requested the background check be completed ASAP. Great, right?
Not really. The officer in charge of conducting the background
check went into the office the next day for the sole purpose of
doing the background check - on a Saturday. So of course almost
no one's home or answering a call from a number they don't
recognize. So the officer called Ed.
1) It's Saturday. (I think that bears repeating)
2) Calling from a number we didn't recognize
3) we were our of town, 4 hours from home, visiting a friend
who's mother recently died
The Cap'n finally picks up after the officer called a 3rd time
(not leaving a message the previous 2 times) and the officer
(now in a bad mood because it's Saturday) basically makes the
Cap'n call all of his own references and ask them to call the
officer. Oh, and the officer gave Ed the wrong number.
So instead of giving our friend our complete undivided attention
during brunch, the Cap'n's fielding calls and looking up numbers
and info.
I'm really not impressed with this officer. At least the Cap'n
has a call-back interview tomorrow, so I'm assuming the
background checked turned out fine.
I get that the court really wanted to move quickly on this, but
does it strike anyone else as a bit unreasonable to try to
conduct a background check in just 1 day on a weekend???

Yes it does. There is no guarantee someone is available on a
weekend they aren't working on.
I think maybe the person doing the check dropped the ball a bit
and had to try to get it done over the weekend?

Apparently, all of the Cap'n's references got the messages and
called the officer. He had a call back interview with the City
Manager yesterday morning, and per my sources, The Cap'n blew
the manager away. The physical and drug test were scheduled for
that afternoon. Now we're just waiting on the results and an
offer. 8)

Well, good luck on him getting that job.
And yes, making calls liike that on a Saturday are not a good
guarantee to get results. Stupidity in the government abounds.
And I should know, becuase I'm a gov't employee, and you should
hear some of the crap that is happening here. The one I'm hating
right now is the *nifty new* accounting software that doesn't
work. And my group is in the middle of trying to send out some
billing.
Sending good vibes your way. :D

He got the job and is now in week 2 there. He loves it.
However, he now has new examples of ridiculousness in a Village
Municipality. ::)
I'm also a Municipal employee, though I work for the BIG one in
our area (which we actually reside in). We have over 2 million
people living in our city, versus 3,600 in the Village the Cap'n
works for.
Maybe I should start calling him the G-Man?

Yay, glad he got the job.
Sometimes small townships can be great, and sometimes it is the
larger ones concentrated down into ridiculous stupidity.
