Wannabe Mozart in Target

So I went to Target today and ran into a situation I actually
have never encountered before.
Someone was over by the keyboard section and decided to play the
keyboards loudly. Usually people (or kids) play for a little
while get bored and move on. But someone just kept playing and
playing. I didn't keep track of time closely but it had to be
over 10 minutes. It was obvious they knew how to play, but they
weren't quite as good as they thought because they'd play
something and it would just be loud error after loud error, than
abrupt stop then a few way too rapidly played measures than
another mistake and abrupt stop. I was a music major in
undergrad and this was like nails on a chalkboard to me. I
wasn't even in the vicinity of that section and I could hear it
so clearly. It was really maddening.
My question, is was the player rude? I can play the piano and
it wouldn't occur to me to try to stumble through sonatas with
the keyboard on full blast in a department store. I'd try it
out briefly if I was interested in it and move on.

My first reaction is that the person was irritating, but I don't
know about rude. Maybe.

I'm leaning towards rude for the volume + duration. I think if
he/she had had it at a low volume, it wouldn't have been heard
so clearly in other departments and wouldn't have mattered if he
played a long time. If it was only a minute or two, it wouldn't
be so bad either.
I mean it was loud to me and I was in a whole different area--I
can't imagine for someone trying to shop in the electronics
department.

OK, I need to call my ex and tell him to lay off the keyboards
in Target. :D :D :D (Seriously, the man would bang away on any
piano-like item in the vicinity, with all the starts and stops
you describe, and never could understand why it didn't draw
adoring crowds...)
I think it was rude because of the duration. Obviously, if they
have it set up so customers can play, they're OK with people
giving a brief test run--but he's monopolizing it and annoying
other customers.

I do think it's rude to subject other patrons to one's musical
abilities at a loud volume. I think if you want to have an
extended get-to-know-you session with a keyboard, go to a music
store and turn the volume down. Don't leave people wishing they
hadn't run out of toilet paper that day. ;D

I think it would have been rude no matter how skilled the person
is, though the annoyance factor might have been less. Even good
playing isn't welcome all the time. The volume and length of
time combined are the factors for me as well; I can understand
turning it up full blast and playing a chord or two so you know
how loud it can be before purchasing, but then the volume should
be adjusted back down and any additional playing (which is
important when purchasing a keyboard) done at a volume more
suited to the environment.
