When do you stop claiming halfs?

I canNOT think of a better subject title, sorry
I heard a kid on a commercial today saying she was 9 and a half.
I noticed that I don't say I'm 42 and a half. I didn't say I
was 21 and a half, or even 16 and a half. When do kids stop
claiming that extra half?

I think I stopped that around 7 or 8, if I remember correctly.

When do kids stop doing it? When they grow out of the need to
seem as old as they possibly can. :)
I think parents generally stop doing it when that half a year
doesn't mean much developmentally anymore. The different between
a five year old and a five and a half year old is still pretty
big, but the difference between a twelve year old and a twelve
and a half year old is pretty slim. This is why I think it's
hilarious when someone refers to her four year old as a
50-month-old. Really, people? Really? The only time you would
even need that kind of specificity is when you have a problem
you're talking to the doctor about, and if that's the case, the
doctor will know exactly how old your kid is anyway.

I stopped about age 6 or 7...mostly. If one of my parents asks
how old I am and we aren't in public, I'm either 25 and 1/12 or
"this many" *holds up hands*.

I remember in high school I would never say "I am 16" I would
say "I will be seventeen in March." No matter how far away March
was. ::)

On that episode of SNL that Betty White hosted she kept talking
about how she was 88 and a half years old. I think it became a
bit of a running joke. I also had a very elderly Greek man tell
me he was 80 and a half years old yesterday.
Maybe it's one of those very young and very old things, like
saying hugely inappropriate things shamelessly.

Yep, as many things, that's a minor irritant for me, up there
with mothers (I never hear fathers doing this) saying,
"Sparkleigh is almost four."
Well, then, she's three.

I stopped after high school. Each student got 1 day to use as a
special non-uniform day (except on mandatory formal uniform
days). Most girls used their birthday, but those of us with
summer birthdays usually used out half birthday. 8) If your
friends knew about it in advance, you might also get to carry
around a lot of balloons all day too.

I kid. Mostly. I don't remember when I stopped doing this, but
it's been a while. I do admit to, within about a week or two of
the kid's birthday, having said that he was almost a year old.
I'm not really sure why.

I kind of mentally do it sometimes, but not out loud to other
people. I'm turning 30 this year, so maybe I'll stop counting
so eagerly ;) I do use "almost X age" when I'm within, say, a
month. It just seems more accurate, for some reason.
