Well, the front bed is almost done. My mom was supposed to pick
up calla lilies for me yesterday, so this weekend I'll have two
yellow and one deep purple to plant. Then I just need to get
the rest of my dianthus and some greenery (I'm thinking monkey
grass) in a couple of spots, and we'll be good to go. I'm
anxious to get it taken care of so I can get good pictures in a
couple of months for when we put the house on the market.
And yes, I do recognize the weirdness of doing all this work
primarily so our house will look nicer for prospective buyers.

I broke out the rototiller yesterday, and spent some time out in
the yard, digging up soil to prepare for seed and plants.
This one section of yard, I had some old rotton carpet a friend
had torn out of their house, and I've been using it as a
weed-suppression tool in our huge back yard. Just pulled one
section of it off (and put it in a new section of the yard).
Used the rototiller in that section, and now have spinach and
radishes planted, and going to go through more seed packets to
see what I can put there.
And I'm totally surprised that the rosemary plant that was out
in the yard since last summer survived the winter, even though
I'm in a zone 4. And I didn't water almost all of the plants,
so I'm happy I have some most of the herbs survived.

Went to a local non-chain nursery on Saturday, I spent $163.
And this one guy checking the receipts at the door gave us free
mum plants for mothers day. Wound up with 3 of them, one
yellow,one red, one white (i think).
After resting for a bit, I went out and started weeding parts of
the yard, in preparation of planting. another trashbag of weeds
done (I've filled 4 so far). I did plant the lettuce plants i'd
bought, hoping they produce well. Between them and the spinach
plants that are coming up from seeds, hopefully we will eat well
this summer.
I bought 9 tomato plants, 3 cucumbers, 1 zucchini, 1 acorn
squash, 4 pepper plants (1 bell, other 3 chile peppers) 3
pole-beans, 2 lettuce mix plants, and varied herbs, and 4 flower
plants that looked pretty.
Then yesterday, I headed out for the yard, and actually did get
all of the veggie plants into the ground, still have the herbs
and flowers left. Totally wore myself out doing that, working
at it until just before 8pm.
Not sure when I'll get the herbs in, or the flowers.
I probably should take a picture. :D

We're way behind on gardening. The peas I started from seed
didn't make it, and we've been too busy to build the veggie bed.
The plan is actually for two beds, with a couple feet in
between with pavers to set potted herbs on. I think at this
point we'll probably just do one bed this year, and the other
next year. If I can get cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and maybe
some bell peppers and jalapeņos in this year, I'll be happy.
Maybe I can find those little mini sweet peppers that you get in
bags.
I really need to work on the flower beds in front. I bought a
flat of marigolds yesterday, which I'll plant either today or
Thursday. One of my dahlias from last year came back, and
Alex's rose bush is a monster. Mine is recovering, but looks
like it needs some support. They're pretty bare otherwise, now
that the tulips are done. We usually use marigolds as edging,
but we may just fill the beds in with cheap annuals this year,
just to get something in them.
I'm waiting to do my backyard flower bed until next year. He
walks a dog through a neighborhood with lots of beautiful
gardens, and when I go with him, we've been keeping an eye on
what's blooming when. A summer of that, and I should have some
good ideas.
Does anyone know what I should do with my tulips once they're
done blooming? The foliage is pretty much dead, should I chop
it off or something?

Rainha, let the foliage die back naturally. It is still
creating energy for the long hibernation until next spring.
Once the foliage is really wilted, then you can cut it back to
neaten up the bed.
I got more lettuce plants and put them in the ground,hoping we
will do well with them. I've already made 2 salads out of the
harvest so far.
Also got the strawberry plants in the ground, and hope they do
well.
Also started laying down newspaper in the vegetable garden,
holding it down with pavers doing doube duty - holding down the
newspapters, and giving me a good place to walk in the garden
without getting muddy or stepping on the plants.

Thanks for the tip, PurpleLlama. I just saw it now, but that's
pretty much what I did. Glad to see I had the right idea.
I planted a bunch of marigolds in the front flower beds last
weekend. Some are doing better than others now, but the weather
has been nuts. Hopefully things will even out soon so they can
get established.
I have done nothing in the backyard. Nothing.

I made myself a worm-bin yesterday.
I was looking on-line for how much it would cost to buy one, and
found a site that was talking about "make your own" bins.
Reading through it, I realized that I had everything I needed to
make one, except for the worms. So I drilled the holes in the
plastic bins, put the wet newspapers and some yard soil in
there, went and bought a box of worms and put them in there.
I'm hoping they make themselves at home and start eating right
away, and in a couple of weeks or so, I should have some really
good 'vermicompost' to add to the yard.

The weather and my inability to get out there to weed has
screwed the flower bed, almost entirely. Got loads of jalapenos
off the plants I grew, and my herbs are doing really nicely, but
the bulk of the flower bed is going to get mowed down shortly.

I don't garden but my husband is brilliant. He spent most of
Saturday replanting some old plants and putting loads of new
ones in. Our lilies are almost in bloom and the gardens looks
great. I supervise.

My husband and I are happy. Our veggie plants are finally
producing.
I've picked 3 cucumbers so far,
about 2 dozen small cherry tomatoes (technically they are gold
cherry tomatoes and *very tasty*),
3 large tomatoes,
and maybe 6-8 small tomatoes,
about 2 dozen zucchini (from just one plant!!),
and the poblano pepper plant is not doing well,
but the banana pepper plant is doing pretty good.
Oh, yeah the the bell pepper plant has produced 2 so far.
And I've pulled about 3 garbage bags of weeds so far. I have to
keep up on that, because the bindweed is very fast growing. But
I figure if I keep the weeds pulled from around there, it is
less shelter for the bugs that want to come eat my veggies.
