LOL When dh used to be a store manager for them years and years
ago, they used to call them key holders. But I would have
preferred that, Key Master, has a nice ring to it. Maybe that's
       why she was so bitter?

She should have just left it alone, as you weren't upset.
I couldn't have helped myself from saying something to her.
I do hate the "Customer is always right" thing that some places
subscribe to....but this takes it too far the other way. I get
arguing about it if you were whining or insisting on getting
compensation out of it. But you were about to leave, a happy
customer and all. She didn't need to say anything at all.

Well, that's pretty much the training video of "how not to help
a customer." I think you were fine, and I understand why you
       don't shop there!
I feel for the cashier, though. I bet that's a routine part of
       the job there.

I was trying to figure out why she even involved that lady at
all. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the lady saw
her getting the letter and asked what happened? Who knows. Dh
(this kind of stuff pisses him off) wrote a letter to corporate
as he remembered from managing there years ago that a customer
complaint was a huge no no. Will see.

My guess is that the woman spotted her on her way back to swap
it out or had requested to be notified of any issues with
       returns or what-have-you.
