To be clear...the guy was passed out, outside of the spin room.
He left and walked into the free weight area, and then passed
       out then.
After class last night we learned (same instructor) that he
didn't have any water with him...so we all got a good lecture on
       hydrating properly ;)

Okay, that actually makes a big difference to me. I was
envisioning you two happily jogging in place while some guy's
lying just a few feet from you. With the clarification, I think
       you were fine.

I work for a gym. Occasionally we'll have someone pass out (and
it's usually due to dehydration), and believe me, it's best to
carry on with what you're doing as long as the person is being
tended to. If no one on staff is aware of the issue, please
alert someone, but otherwise, leave it alone.

I've sometimes been in similar situations, like once when I was
with my boyfriend in a cafe that only had one other customer who
had some sort of fit. The employees rushed to help him and an
ambulance arrived fast and there was nothing we could have done
(especially as neither of us has any experience or skills at
first aid) so we just sat in our table. Or another one where I
saw a motorcyclist fall (he was wearing shorts, ouch), by the
time I had realized what had happened several people had already
rushed to help him (he also picked a very good spot for it,
right in front of a fire station, when I passed it on my way
back there were four trucks and very many firemen helping him)
so I just continued on my way. It still feels like I should have
done something else but I don't know what. It would be worse to
stand there watching it and I don't know how I could make sure
that the people helping were in control of the situation,
without distracting them from the helping. I was once involved
in the helping (or with people who helped) and I remember that
some people stopped and asked if we had called an ambulance and
what was the problem. That wasn't really a very critical
emergency though, a very drunk man passed out on the street, or
appeared to, and help was called on the basis that even (or
especially) drunk homeless people can be ill.

I think the kindest thing you can do in this situation is to
give the person who passed out their privacy. I know there's
nothing private about passing out in a gym, but I think the
people who are not directly helping should just carry on.

I agree with Hot Shaker with both her posts. if he had been
close, like in the room, it seems wierd to still be jogging etc
while he was passed out although not rude. But he was in a
whole other room, so you were totally fine.
