Lame. The dress is part of what makes Katniss. It's an
extremely important plot element. If you want to win over the
Capital, an over the top, ridiculous fire dress is the way to do
it. I thought the chariot outfits would be more firey, too.
Maybe because the road was so wide, the flames themselves seemed
small. I was underwhelmed.

I've been poking around the internet, looking for costumes that
fans wore to opening night, and- this could just be my Bitch
talking- but the fact that so many people dressed up as Effie or
Capitol citizens just doesn't quite sit right with me.
I mean, I lovelovelove dressing up for movies. I've dressed up
for Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean,
Harry Potter. I even dressed up for the animated Star Wars movie
that came out a few years ago (any excuse to carry a
lightsabre...). I love seeing the way that people express
creativity and enthusiasm via costume.
But considering the place of the Capitol in the story, dressing
up as citizens excited to watch the bloodbath seems ironic.
Or am I just being way too picky?

I get what you mean, but it's hard to actually dress up as
people from the districts and actually get recognized. People
recognize the Capitol citizens, but they won't necessarily see
someone in old cargo pants and a tshirt and think Katniss. I
think it's human nature to go for the extreme costume.

I saw it opening night (and surprisingly, it wasn't too crazy)
and liked it. Didn't love though. I agree that i wish I
understood more about some of the relationships.
I was dissapointed that they threw Thresh away as well. I liked
him.
I kind of wish there was more Capitol stuff too. I would have
liked to see the other district costums more too jsut so that I
would be better about recognizing who they were. I have
troubles with that.
I can't remember, what happened with Seneca in the books?

I actually loved the costuming and design of the movie, but felt
like I couldn't really see it since most of the movie was filmed
by a shaky video camera. I think they may have been going for a
documentary style look, but it didn't fit with the movie and
most of the time I felt like I was watching through a box and
couldn't see the whole scene. That really ruined part of the
movie for me.

They just say that he was executed, but they don't spell out
exactly how. It could be that he was hanged, since that's how
Katniss "executes" him in front of the game makers during the
Quarter Quell training period.

I think the shaky camera thing was to kind of obscure the
violence a bit. It's hard to murder teenagers and keep a PG-13
rating, KWIM? I did find it distracting, though, and I thought
that the horror of it was lessened too much. The deaths should
have had more of an impact, since the whole point of the thing
was how horrific it is to force teenagers to kill each other for
sport.

Lol is it just me, or was anyone else a tiny bit miffed that for
a 5 second scene they couldn't come up with an orange cat
instead? ;D
