A small question about wedding dates
DIR By: DanglyParts

Hey all,
So, after getting engaged over a year ago, we have finally set a
date. Kind of.
We just need to confirm with our local council for a photography
permit (outdoor wedding in the park). We have confirmed with the
venue (a cafe in the park) the date that we want, it's
essentially a done deal.
I found out yesterday that my bridesmaid's good friend has just
picked her wedding date: the exact same one. I feel slightly
conflicted. I love my friend - I asked her to be one of 2
bridesmaids shortly after I got engaged, along with my younger
sister - but I feel bad that she essentially has to choose
between the two.
I don't really want to change the date (it's the Sunday of a
long weekend in late summer) but I don't want to make my
friend's life excessively difficult.
Am I just overthinking this and should remember that, frankly,
shit happens? I'm pretty stressed with school at the moment so
I'm perfectly willing to accept the verdict of overthinking and
get back to fun stuff, like chest tube maintenance protocols.

It's admirable that you want to make it easy for your friend,
but it's about what works best for you and your fiance. If you
can and want to move it, great! If not, that's OK. Just let her
know about the conflict and tell her that you want her to be
there but you completely understand if she can't be. Tell her
there will be no hard feelings and that you will love her either
way. Most importantly, mean it.

Totally agree with the above, especially the bolded.
It's unfortunate that the friend chose the same day as you but
you need to pick the date that's going to work best for you. It
sounds like you have enough stress in your life, you don't need
to and simply can't worry about whether your wedding date is
convenient for everybody.

I agree with the others. Had you chosen a date and not really
done anything about it, I'd suggest that you at least consider
changing it, but since you've already done scheduling and
planning around it, I suspect it would be a hassle.

It's been my experience that most brides run their preferred
dates past the bridal party well in advance to ensure no
conflicts. You've already got your date firm with your wedding
party and several vendors. I'm actually a little surprised that
your BM hadn't already let her friend know that she had a prior
commitment to your wedding.

Her friend knew I was getting married but I'm not sure she knew
we had a date. I'm not too worried about my BM, she's one of my
best mates and will be coming back to the country to attend the
wedding. I just feel vaguely guilty for not making it possible
for her to attend both days.
You're all right, I'll just leave the date as is. We've both
picked the date for good reason. The other bride and I are
Facebook friends and she sent me a message last night. We've
wished each other good sunshine-y weather. :)
