My library books stay on my Kindle if I don't turn on the wifi,
even past the return date, but they still show up back at the
library, so you're not depriving the next person in line. I've
done it a couple times for an extra day or two when I got behind
or books became available in the wrong order.

I'm just about to do the same thing, I think. I do need to
finish it though, because I'm trying to do my re-read so I can
read A Dance with Dragons. I bought it when it came out but
discovered I couldn't remember previous events.

Hardia, I have a book on my coffee table that I should go back
through, it is about the life of Richard Lionheart's mother,
Eleanor of Aquitaine. According to that book, Richard was
originally supposed to inherit her lands in France, being the
third son. I'll have to see about finding your book.
[/quote]
If you are interested in the Plantagenets, Penman's books are
fantastic. This is now the fourth she's written about them in
this series, right from Henry II's mother (a fascinating woman
in her own right) to Henry and Eleanor's legendary love affair
and eventual estrangement, to now this is the second she's
written about their offspring. She also wrote a series back
many years ago that started with King John (Henry and Eleanor's
last son, the Prince John of Robin Hood fame) and follows his
daughter as she marries the Prince of Wales (back when Wales was
a separate country) and through to their grandson. Meticulously
researched but always with an eye to telling a good story first
and foremost, they're among the best historical fiction I've
ever read.
She's also written a series of medieval murder mysteries, with a
fictitous main character who is part of the court of Eleanor and
later Richard. They're a little less dense, and not nearly as
long (her main novels measure hundreds of pages each).

I am currently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg
Larsson, which will count towards my goal of reading 30 books
within the year. (Some books don't meet my designated criteria
of what counts so they will not be added to the tally)
Of the ones I've read so far for the challenge it's the least
I've liked. I'm about 60% of the way through. At some parts I do
perk up with interest, but first most of the start I was kinda
just wading through. And I keep wondering why the author insists
on giving details on things that don't matter - well, I don't
really need to know exactly what a persons meal consists of, but
alright. But I draw the line at telling me specifically where a
plastic bag came from, or precisely what a computers specs are.
If it's a top of the line computer, just say that it was a state
of the art computer! Don't go into details of "oh and it held
68gb and was 1.6 ghz blah blah". Also, he sure did mention apple
products a lot.
Oh, and the main characters kinda annoy me. Overall, I'd say the
book is average.

I was reading Physics of the Future by Michio Kaku, but I
mislaid my Kindle. It's frustrating, but I'm pretty sure it's in
the house somehwere, so I'm not panicked.
Currently, I'm reading Frank Fontana's Dirty Little Secrets of
Design. I LOVE home design books.

Working on Jasper Fforde's "The Fourth Bear". I loved "The Big
Over Easy."
I liked Rick Riordon's "Red Pyramid" and have been meaning to
read the sequel, but I want to wait until the 3rd book is
available. I might pick up the Percy Jackson series.
The Cap'n and I have been reading Cherise Sinclair together -
mostly I read aloud. But my voice got tired a while back and we
stopped and should pick it back up. Steamy stuff.
I read "The Red Tent" a few months back and liked it a lot.
Anyone have any other historical fiction suggestions? I like
Karen Cushman's books (I often re-read "Catherine Called
Birdy").
I also like re-tellings of fairy tales, like Robin McKinley's
"Beauty". I also enjoyed Gregory Maguire's fairy tales (author
of "Wicked).

I just finished the biography I won, Pink Moon, A Story About
Nick Drake by Gorm Henrik Rasmussen, a Danish poet. It was
great - written in 1980 a few years after Nick's death. It was
recently translated into English and updated with new
interviews. (Nick Drake is one of the best-kept secrets of
popular/folk music in the late '60s. He should have been wildly
famous, but depression and questionable management got in his
way.)
I highly recommend biographies written by poets. It was the
best of both worlds; fascinating subject matter written with
beauty and sensitivity.

I *loved* Snuff. I got it as an early Christmas present and
thoroughly enjoyed it while on holidays. It's been interesting
to watch the evolution of different characters through the
seasons, particularly Willikins, Vimes' butler.
I *should* be reading Basic Dysrhythmias but I'm rereading a
regency romance by Suzanne Enoch.

I just finished reading The Stranger Beside Me, by Ann Rule.
It's about the Ted Bundy case from the 70's/80's.
I'm now reading Green River, Running Red, also by Ann Rule. It's
about the Green River Killings in the Seattle area in the early
80's. Very interesting.

Finished "The Fourth Bear" early this morning. Downloaded
"Stiff" by Mary Roach. I loved "Bonk."
