What are you reading?

Should be self explanatory. What are you reading, and how is
it?
Tax season has inspired a newfound desire to read absolute
fluff, so I'm in the middle of Charlaine Harris's Harper
Connelly series. I read the Sookie Stackhouse books last year,
and between the two, I've concluded that Harris is altogether
too interested in incest. I bet she read a lot of VC Andrews as
a kid.
Overall, entertaining, quick reads, not exactly quality
literature, but a fun break when I spend all day doing taxes. I
got them from the library, not sure I'd bother paying for them.

I'm alternating between two books -- a fluffy read and a more
substantial one. The fluffy read is I've started a re-read of
the Harry Potter series, and am nearly done book 1. The more
substantial one is the latest Sharon Kay Penman (one of my
favourite authors) which is about Richard the Lionheart. I love
her books, and this one is as well written as ever, but it's
much heavier (both mentally and physically, since I bought in in
hard cover!) so I need to take breaks from it every now and
then.

I have a kindle, but I also have a stack of discount books that
I haven't had a chance to read so in the interest of cleaning up
some clutter I am determined to alternate between those and what
I have on my kindle. Right now I'm reading "Under the Tuscan
Sun" as my hard copy book. My kindle book is "The Hunger Games"
which I haven't started yet.
The Tuscan Sun is incredibly different than the movie. Like I'm
not even sure why they paid the author to use her book. The
only thing that seems to be the same is the name of the house
and its location. Everything else is different. The book is
really just about renovating a house--but since I love that kind
of home reno/decor thing it's up my alley. I have a dream of
fixing up some old farmhouse in the country where I can live
away from subways and skyscrapers.

I just finished "The Historian," and the first Percy Jackson
book and loved both of them. Currently, I just started reading
"Vampire Forensics," which is about the origins of vampire
legends, and "The Girl With the Crooked Nose," which is about
forensic artist Frank Bender, and his work on a string of
murders in Mexico (a few months ago, I read "The Murder Room,"
which is about the crime-solving club the Vidocq Society, of
which Bender was a founding member, so this seemed like the
logical follow-up). They're both incredibly interesting, if a
little on the dark/gruesome side. This evening, I'll probably
start the second Percy Jackson book, and/or "The Remains of the
Day," which my mom has been telling me for ages I should read.

Just re-read American Gods, which continues to be one of the
best things I've ever read. I think I'm going to start in on the
Song of Fire and Ice series, since I just got the first 4 books
for my birthday. I expect that'll keep me busy for a good while
:)

Recently had a great used bookstore find: the Desiree Shapiro
series by Selma Eichler (the "Murder can Verb your Noun" series)
so I'm reading through those on the train. Getting through
about one a day. Managed to find fifteen of them, used, in
order. Not bad!
Also recently found that my new phone has a Kindle app. So I'm
downloading classics for free (squee!) to re-read in small
chunks.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, first book. I've actually
stalled out on it, not because it isn't good, but because I've
been filling my reading time with crocheting my first afghan
instead. Once that's done, I'm hoping to finish the book, as it
was well-written but still nice light fare.

it's a really interesting read so far.

I'm reading The House on Durrow Street by Galen Beckett, and
hoping to have it done before my advance copy of the next book
in the series arrives. I read and liked the first one, and this
one is a bit slower to get into, I think.

Right now I'm finishing up Hope: A Tragedy: A Novel by Shalom
Auslander. It's a hilariously inappropriate piece about a real
nebbish type who buys a farmhouse and discovers an elderly Ann
Frank living in the attic while she's trying to finish her
second novel. And there's an arsonist.
