Nuclear power has been around for decades but it's never
achieved the global dominance of the energy sector that its
creators envisioned. Now, as the world moves away from fossil
fuels, the nuclear debate is firmly back in focus and Small
Modular Reactors are being touted as the only zero carbon
baseload solution to our climate crisis. Rolls Royce say they'll
have their design operational within ten years. Can they do it,
and do we want it?

/>Agelbert COMMENT:
I agree 100% that SMRs are a costly distraction. That said, I do
believe that SMRs can be useful to human civilization. I will
explain below, but the critical issue before us is cleaning up
our biosphere by powering our civilization EXCLUSIVELY with
Renewable Energy technologies that produce no pollution
whatsoever in the process of providing energy. SMRs, like
Hydrocarbon fuels, BOTH pollute when they provide energy, so
they BOTH must play no role whatsoever in our civilization's
energy providing infrastructure.
🦉 However, off planet SMRs have great potential to help
our exploration of space. IF, and that is a rather large IF,
SMRs can be 🚀 launched safely on journeys to other
planets and/or asteroids to provide reliable 💫
uninterrupted power to a manned, or remote controlled, base for
many decades, it would definitely help in the exploration of
space and exploitation of rare mineral resources in the solar
system, as well as aiding in the scientific 🧐 study of
our off planet neighbors.
🤖 The moon is a great place for SMRs; Mars too.
SMRs on Earth ☠️? 📢 fuggedaboutit!
