When Inflammation is the ENEMY of Your Health
By: AGelbert Date: October 18, 2013, 7:12 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Here's the problem with modern disease in a polluted world
filled with toxins from the point of view of our immune system
       programmed responses.
ONCE the immune system is breached, "things" tend to get out of
control. What do I mean by this? I mean that INFLAMMTION is an
immune response but, if it goes on for long enough, it is bad
for you. Toxins cause inflammation, not because they are
immediately toxic (many aren't and will be excreted) but because
they trigger an inflammatory response that THEN causes other
problems for the circulatory system which needs to provide 24/7
A: Oxygenation to each and every cell and
       B: Nutrients
       C: Garbage collection
SO, if you DO NOT HAVE AN INFECTION, you need to do everything
you can to control inflammation. For example, Gypsymama has had
cracked skin that brings added problems because the tissue is
inflamed (it is edemic and stretched). The reason it stings when
she gets water on them is because her body mistakenly believes
it is being attacked and sends the pain nerve signal to tell her
brain there is a breach. IF her inflammation is controlled, the
tissue with the rash has better oxygenation and nutrient
reception. This enables her to heal quicker as she seems to be
       doing now.
When people are in the final stages of dying from cancer they
get something called ascites (the accumulation of fluid in the
peritoneal cavity, causing abdominal swelling). It doesn't
matter WHERE the cancer is, the body is trying, through a form
of inflammation, to fight an infection that isn't there, not the
       cancer.
If I were that lady with the swelling issues, I would go out of
my way to combat the swelling. Hemp oil and hemp seed oil are
anti inflammatory, as well as possessing a wealth of
cannabinoids that strengthen our immune system's naturally
       produced cannabinoids.
When a person has congestive heart failure (the large ventricle
responsible for pumping blood all the way to your toes is too
weak to do a proper job of it), the lower legs swell and fluid
accumulation occurs in the lungs as well. The swelling, instead
of making things better, reduces circulatory efficiency and
oxygenation with tissue necrosis following anoxic cell death.
Diabetics get skin sores and mostly lose limbs because of poor
circulation from excessive swelling caused by the disease.
Swellling is good when you have a cut or a bruise because immune
system cells have lots of room to concentrate in that area and
carry off any invaders to the lymph nodes (among several
mechanisms the immune system engages in). Once the immune system
decides through ABSENCE of certain chemicals that everything is
hunky jake again, a series of biochemical reactions take place
involving something called histones (I'm sure you have heard the
term anti-histamine, right? It's related. They don't want you
taking them when you have an infection because it is anti
inflammatory). The deal is those histones NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN
when you don't have an infection.
The Native Americans used Willow Bark extract (later aspirin was
made from it) as an anti-inflammatory. Many plants have
anti-inflammatory properties. The info is available on the web
and there are a lot of cheap and SAFE natural plant based
       topical anti-inflammatory applications.
I harp on this because inflammation, when not produced by an
infection, is bad for you and needs to be stopped before other
negative downstream effects like poor circulation begin to take
       their toll.
       Signed,
A dude that took three years of pre-med but didn't continue due
to an ugly divorce. I still love the study of medicine, however.

Note that cells that have been cut open can trigger an
inflammatory response even if no invading bacteria are present.
Why? Because some cell interior chemcals actually attack the
cell walls of other cells in your body.

White tea is fast brewing its way up as a star beverage, thanks
to its tremendous health benefits. Study after study is
establishing its role in controlling obesity, preventing heart
disease, and even fighting off cancer. Here are some important
white tea facts to make you reach out for the wonder brew:
What is white tea: It is not black tea with milk. It is, in
fact, the least processed of all teas, in which the leaves and
buds are simply steamed and dried. White tea contains numerous
buds, covered with fine silvery hairs that give it a light
white/grey color. The tea brews to a pale yellow color, and has
       a slightly sweet flavor.
Drink white tea to fight obesity: In addition to following a
healthy diet and regular exercise, white tea can be a great ally
in your quest for weight loss. A German study published in the
medical journal ”Nutrition and Metabolism” found that white tea
effectively assists the body to better metabolize lipids or
       fats.
Keep skin young and joints pain-free with white tea: The
ingredients in white tea boost the immune function of skin cells
and protects them from sun damage. This discovery by scientists
at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western
Reserve University adds an important element in the battle
against skin cancer. White tea also prevents the action of the
enzymes that break down elastin and collagen—thus fighting
wrinkles. The same enzymes also cause inflammation, so white tea
brings relief from rheumatoid arthritis, too!
Let white tea rescue you from colds and flu: It is a powerful
killer of streptococcus bacteria and viruses, studies show. A
natural cleanser, it also kills fungi with more success than
       other teas.
Stop tooth decay in its tracks with white tea. Research shows
that it fights dental plaque, too. Of course, you would also
need to follow the basics of dental hygiene for the tea to be
       effective.
White tea can reduce colon tumors: According to a study
published in the journal Carcinogenesis by scientists from the
Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, white tea is
more powerful than green tea in reducing the number of cancerous
tumors in mice. Combined with sulindac (a common drug for
preventing colon cancer), its cancer-fighting effect is even
       more dramatic.

The issue I am increasingly running into from health related
articles is that there will be a consensus on what is good for
you but a few years later it will be contradicted with new
evidence. The risk factors of saturated fats and cholesterol are
long standing ones and to think these are not the biggest
factors after all makes it hard to believe that doctors have not
made further mistakes. The volume of studies, reports and
articles on medicine is vast and quite often overwhelming for
readers and often many struggle to discern the wheat from the
chaff. I suppose this is what the big pharmaceuticals want were
people are paralysed with choice and suffer from information
overload. In that sort of state people are more easily persuaded
to go with the flow i.e. follow the herd or mainstream opinion.

By: AGelbert Date: April 8, 2014, 7:49 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       M,
Well, I understand about the paralysis factor benefiting the
corporate bottom line but there are a few salient aspects of the
health issue in general and cardiovascular health in particular
that have changed the overall approach to health care. That
change IS detrimental to corporate profits:
       1. Preventing inflammation with natural products like curcumin
is cheap. In addition, preventing inflammation is the key to
preventing the start of a cancer.
       2. The increased amount of "traffic" in your blood vessels =
increased wall damage = increased inflammation = increased
plaque buildup = decreased blood flow = increased probability of
a clot = increased heart attack risk from the clot either coming
loose and blocking flow somewhere else are doing it in position.
Lack of adequate blood flow (ischemic condition) causes cell
death from nutrient starvation, lack of oxygenation or lack of
immune system function and garbage removal of toxic molecules
       from dead cells or invaders.
The issue with the cholesterol and the particles that carry it
(low density or high density) is really not about size but about
quantity. The more of them there are, the more often they smack
into the one cell thick blood vessel wall. When they do that,
not because they are called on to do it by a receptor chemical
messenger on the walls, but because there are so many of them,
the cholesterol inside them is distributed on the wall lining,
inflammation takes place to repair the impact site with the
cholesterol made use of to build collagen, the most common
protein in the human body. This a case of too much of a good
thing causing (eventually) restricted blood flow, clots and even
herniated (over sized and inflated blood vessels).
The NMR LipoProfile (Cholesterol Particle Count) test is cheap
at about $100 (in the U.S. - it's probably a lot cheaper in sane
countries) and just counts the number of ALL the lipoproteins,
whether they are HDL, LDL or VLDL. It's a simpler approach to
figure out if you are at risk. At any rate, curcumin, ginger and
quite a few other very cheap natural ingredients will keep the
inflammation down and, along with moderate eating and exercise,
keep the number of lipoprotein particles to goldilocks (not too
few and not too many) quantity. I like it. ;D It takes that
"good" and "bad" cholesterol baloney out of the discussion. Your
liver makes 75% or more of all the cholesterol in your blood
stream. Eating a high cholesterol food has little or nothing to
do with how much you have in your blood. That's what the doctors
don't want to deal with and what big pharma wants you to believe
can only be controlled with STATINS. Statins are a last resort
and dangerous. If you have no other option, a small dose statin
mat be good therapy but one must bear in mind that statins are
the DIRECT ROUTE to TYPE 2 DIABETES! That is already
       established by all the studies.
So an ounce of prevention continues to be worth a pound of
       Statin "cure".

Here's another cheap and healthy food that big pharma doesn't
want us to know about. ;)
