Read the below discussion question, and post one comment:
Prior to this lesson, did you know there were 12 other apostles
mentioned in the New Testament? What is the major difference
between these other apostles and the foundational apostles
Jesus handpicked? Why do you think the Holy Spirit took time to
include a record of other apostles in the New Testament?

Prior to the lesson I did know there were more apostles,
however, I didn't realize there were 12, I could account for at
least 5 off top of my head.
The biggest difference between the foundational and the other
apostles are 1) the foundational ones had to be witnesses of
Jesus Christ, 2) foundational apostles established the doctrine
of the church; 3) the other apostles carried the doctrine that
was established by the foundational apostles - with the
exception of James, Jude and Paul who also wrote some doctrine
for the church.
I think the Holy Spirit took time to include the other apostles
to show the model of how the church and the kingdom continues to
advance. The model of everything we need is found in the Book
of Acts and the other Apostles were key in taking the gospel to
other nations and establishing and building the church. This
was a new movement that went far beyond Jerusalem and it was
done by the Foundational Apostles imparting into every disciple
and raising them up - duplicating themselves. I see this as a
train the trainer model. The other apostles were trained by the
original apostles to carry the vision and movement.
