Beginning

Satan became Satan because he overstepped God’s authority.
He wanted to compete with God and to stand in opposition to God.
Rebellion is the cause of the fall of Satan.
Both Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:13-17 speak of the
transgression and the fall of Satan.
Isaiah 14 tells us that Satan violated God’s authority,
while Ezekiel 28 tells us that he violated God’s holiness.
Violating God’s authority is a matter of rebellion; it is
more serious than violating God’s holiness. Sin is a
matter of conduct; it is easy to be forgiven of sin. But
rebellion is a matter of principle; it is not easy to be
forgiven of rebellion.
Satan, in trying to set up his throne above that of God’s,
violated God’s authority. The principle of Satan is the
principle of self-exaltation. Sin’s coming into being was
not the cause of Satan’s fall. Rather, Satan’s
rebellion against God’s authority, for which he was
condemned by God, subsequently gave rise to sin.

I thought Isaiah 14 was about the king of Babylon and Ezekiel 28
the king of Tyre.

I guess I am with you on this one Kerry. While I
understand where Helen and maybe Watchman Nee are coming from,
she may be forgetting that not everyone is where she is with
regard to the satan spoken about in scripture.
I'm not sure exactly what those chapters are saying.
They could be scoffing at the two men asking them if they think
they're as exalted as Satan was once.
The Jews say the King of Tyre made what he thought was a copy of
the seven heavens -- some sort of building with seven levels.
He then also told people he was a god sitting in the heavens.

I guess some would say that I am unfortunate in
that I was never taught in any formal situation that those two
chapters referred to satan rather than, or in place of, two
natural men. By the time I began using the Internet and learned
about that representation of satan, I had already encountered
the possibility of satan being something else.
I am not so sure that the order in which those things came to me
was unfortunate.
