I believe the moderators can issue warnings and assign
points to members; and if a member gets too many points, all
his posts must be approved by a moderator until the points go
away. If he gets too many points, he gets muted for a while.
Annoying more than one moderator might not get people banned;
but it could mean they have the chance to calm down a little by
being silenced for a while. I'm still working at this. I
know that moderators of all the boards can see relevant
moderation areas; but I'm not sure how they can assign points or
if they can. I believe they can.
I'm hoping shared responsibility will encourage mutual respect.
It's like visiting someone's house. Be polite when you're
there, and then you hope they're polite when they visit you. If
someone runs his board in a way you don't like, my advice is to
avoid that board.

I can't figure out how to make it possible for the moderators of
their own boards to give warnings and assign points. If I can't
figure it out, all I can do is say if the moderator wants to
issue a warning, he can report the post and let me do it; and if
he wants points assigned, I'll do it.

Better to work on getting more of those 40 odd email addressees
to sign up and join in.
A round robin news letter?
I was thinking about that, Mike, but wasn't sure what
approach to take.
I changed the default permissions of moderators a little so they
could announce topics when they start a thread.
If you start a thread in your area and want to send notices to
members, just click on the "announce topic" box and then follow
directions after you hit the reply button to post the thread.
If your group is open to everyone, I think everyone would get
the announcement -- unless they opted out of getting them. I
believe everyone on the list of members would get them even if
they have never logged in.
Posting polls and then announcing them may motivate people to
come to a site. Got any good ideas for polls?

I just woke up in the middle of the night thinking "I just gorra
do something positive to help people who need help", so I've
signed up to see if I can join the 'Samaritans'.
Their software email reply tells me it may take up to three
weeks for them to process my application and respond.
