Ruth 4:7-8 King James Version (KJV)
7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning
redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a
man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this
       was a testimony in Israel.
8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he
       drew off his shoe.
Ruth 4:7-8 New Life Version (NLV)
7 This is what was done before in Israel to show that the buying
or trading of land was decided upon. A man would take off his
shoe and give it to another. This would make sure what was
decided. 8 So he said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” And he
       took off his shoe.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
7 So they sealed the oat based on the tradition it seems that
for this to be mentioned in the scripture that by David’s time
when this was most likely no longer a tradition. Traditions go
away but we can’t let our focus and devotion towards the Lord go
       away.
8 So Boaz now could buy the land but more important to him this
could mean he could now marry Ruth which would make both of them
       very happy.
