2 Samuel 1:19-20 King James Version (KJV)
19 The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are
the mighty fallen!
20 Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of
Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the
daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
2 Samuel 1:19-20 New Life Version (NLV)
19 “O Israel, your beauty is destroyed on your high places! How
have the powerful fallen! 20 Do not tell about it in Gath. Do
not tell about it in the streets of Ashkelon, or the daughters
of the Philistines might be filled with joy. The daughters of
those who have not gone through our religious act might be
filled with joy.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
19 Israel would lose their glory thru battle and war but it was
because of Saul’s lack of faith during his leadership, often
times the king’s faith effected the nation’s which shows the
importance of a God fearing leader. The king and his heir
Jonathan are the ones referred to as the fallen ones.
20 Gath was a city of the Philistines, the war where the loose
was gained was against the Philistines. Ashkelon is another
Philistine city. The Philistines would have found favor in the
win and they did once they knew we see how they reacted with the
ark the captured.
