1 Kings 5:13-18 King James Version (KJV)
13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the
       levy was thirty thousand men.
14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses:
a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and
       Adoniram was over the levy.
15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare
       burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
16 Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the
work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the
people that wrought in the work.
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly
stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
18 And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and
the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build
       the house.
1 Kings 5:13-18 New Life Version (NLV)
13 Now King Solomon made men work for him from all Israel. There
were 30,000 men made to work for him. 14 He sent them to
Lebanon, 10,000 men each month. They were in Lebanon one month
and at home two months. Adoniram ruled those who were made to
work. 15 Now Solomon had 70,000 men to carry loads, and 80,000
stone cutters in the mountains. 16 And he had 3,300 men who were
leaders of the work, and who ruled over the people doing the
work. 17 Then as the king told them, they cut out large stones
of much worth for the house of God to be built on. 18 Solomon’s
builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them. They
made the wood and the stones ready to build the house.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
13 He made the men work they were most likely not paid to do the
work, this large number of men would have been the size of an
army which was something Solomon would not need.
14 He only made them work one out of three months at a time but
they had to go to another land to work. Solomon had someone in
charge, this man had an important job of making sure the temple
was finished and that the workers were building it as quick as
       possible.
15 This are many men working for the building of the temple,
most of the Israelite men of age would have at some point had a
       part in building the temple.
16 Leadership was needed for such a large task so these men were
important and probably only answer to Adoniram and Solomon.
17 A foundation was important if it was not strong the temple
       would fall down.
18 They were getting the supplies ready while the foundation was
being ready they were doing many different things at once which
would make the building go quicker.
