Everyone we are close to, including ourselves, have troubles,
some serious, others fixable eventually. It is life, it is
good because we choose to see the good when the bad surrounds
us. The saddest thing (most ppl would not agree if they knew
all the stuff) is my mother who was always close to me
(currently suffering dementia in a nursing home) who often wants
me to leave when I visit her. The only person who loved me
when I was younger and not very lovable, was her. She was my
only solid foundation when I was younger and was in a sea of
sorrow. I try to remember that it well may be the dementia
that encourages her to want me to leave her when I visit.

^ I'm sorry, Brad, that must be very
difficult for you. Have you tried bringing music to her? I
read somewhere that music stimulates memories in a completely
different part of the brain than other things; sometimes those
suffering memory loss respond well to music from their past.
Yes, everyone has troubles. Our Savior saves us from many
things. And, our God is a god of restoration. We have
hope.

Music might be a good idea, but she is always so tired, she will
probably just be lulled to sleep, but its worth a try. Will
have to buy something to play though, the smallest thing I have
is a boombox. She used to like country music, some of the same
stuff I like.
Does she recognize you? If so, maybe she thinks you
don't really want to visit but feel obligated. Maybe that's
her way of trying to let you "off the hook." I'm that way --
if I think someone is feels obligated or is pitying me for
something, I push them away.
She may be embarrassed by her condition too. I knew a woman who
didn't want anyone she knew to see her when she took sick
because of the way she looked.

^She remembers me enough that she always says, "Brad!" as soon
as she sees me, but usually shortly afterwords, she will ask me
who I am if we talk much. She is tired a lot. Others there
say she has probably regressed in mind to that of a petulant
girl who when tired, wants to be left alone. I visit about
once a week, unless I am sick, dont want to bring my germs into
the nursing home where the lack of immunity is more prevalent
and the patient less able to fight it off.
