I like that song by Lennon. Wouldn't the world be a better
place without all the religions that daze and confuse us? That
teach us to go to war because we're right and the other fellows
are wrong -- because God told us so?
He wants a world where we treat our neighbors as ourselves.
Literally. Not a world where I can torture or kill you to show
God how much I love you. We might be better off worrying less
about heaven and hell and thinking more about how to live in
harmony with our neighbors. God gave dominion of the earth to
man. What do we want to do with it? Tell each other what God
told us to do with it? I see a lot of hate in a lot of
religions inspired by people's beliefs in gods that tell them to
be savage to others. Surely that's religion not worth having.
Can we get to heaven after turning the earth into hell for our
       neighbors? How could it be?
1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he
is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen,
how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Saying we love God is easy to do; but to me, God is mysterious.
How can I be sure I'm loving God if I don't know what He is?
For me, I have to begin by loving my fellow man whom I believe
is made in the image and likeness of God. It seems to me that
learning to love God is a step-by-step process. If I see the
beauty of a sunset and appreciate it, that gratitude for the
experience is loving God. The more I can appreciate God's
works, the more I believe I am loving God.

Hi Harvest Mouse and welcome to RCF.
Any chance that you might be friends with a Field Mouse, who you
       could also invite along?

You may enjoy an article at Al-Jazeera with Cardinal Onaiyekan

/>of Nigeria. He is keenly aware of the dangers of how religion
       can be misused.
And the bad news keeps coming. We think of Boka Haram attacking
churches and killing Christians. But they seem willing to
attack anyone who doesn't follow their extreme form of Islam. I
see they just attacked a mosque. At least, it's suspected
they're the guilty party according to VOA
  HTML http://www.voanews.com/content/dozens-killed-following-blasts-at-kano-central-mosque-in-nigeria/2539186.html:<br
       />
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to "not leave any
stone unturned" in tracking down the terrorists who attacked a
mosque, killing more than 80 worshippers and wounding at least
       100 others.
Jonathan issued a statement Saturday urging Nigerians "not to
despair in this moment of great trial" in the nation's history,
and "remain united to confront the common enemy."
A series of explosions followed by gunfire outside the crowded
central mosque in Kano struck just after the start of Friday
       prayers.
Witnesses say they saw scores of people wounded and feared dead
after two bombs exploded in a courtyard outside Kano's Grand
Mosque, and a third detonated nearby.
       . . .
The mosque is associated with one of the country's most
influential Muslim authorities, the emir of Kano, who recently
called for Nigerians to take up arms against the militant group
Boko Haram. The emir is currently out of the country.
No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing in Nigeria's
second largest city, but suspicion is likely to fall on Boko
Haram, which has carried out similar attacks.
Kenya is troubling too. Now that's a mostly Christian country.
Why would men strip a woman naked because they thought she was
wearing skimpy clothes? Does that make sense? Okay, I get it
if they think women shouldn't wear short skirts or tops that are
revealing; but does that mean they should expose even more?
There's been more than one such attack; and so far no one's
       been arrested.
