They like water -- in particular water that's not either
standing still or barely moving. Most of them lay their eggs in
dead wood next to the water. That tells me if you went out
exploring Pleasant Valley, odds are you'd find some dead wood
close water.
Fireflies may be declining because of the loss of environment
and possibly because of too much light at night. They use those
flashes to communicate.

Oops, I wrote that wrong. They like water that's standing still
or barely moving.

This is Wiseman's Bridge and the pub on the beach that we used
to walk to in the evenings when we were staying at Mill House
Caravan Park which was probably about half a mile inland from
here through the trees at the back of the pub. We used to see
them as we walked home. As far as I know there was no static
water anywhere near.

Out of curiosity I went to Google maps. I found a few ponds
close by -- there's one out in a field -- and it has shrubs
or trees around it -- northwest of Sardis Congregational
Church.

There's a bigger one further west -- also with trees or shrubs

Where I was driving and spotted them, there's a stream that I
cross -- but that wouldn't count. There must be something else
that I never saw. There could marshy areas or maybe a pond
that I don't know about.

Hey Brad,
Will pray a quick and complete recovery for Emmy. Be sure she
rests; we women tend to push into our duties before we give
ourselves time to heal.
If the pup don't poop, you can try mixing a couple teaspoonfuls
of mineral oil into some canned dog food. Sometimes that works
if they're blocked. Did she eat anything different or maybe get
into something she shouldn't have? (My dog once got very
blocked from eating cat litter; had to take her to the vet for
an enema when the mineral oil didn't do the trick. She kept
straining all day, and was crying with discomfort by late
evening.) Don't try to spoon the oil into her mouth, though,
because she might aspirate it. Mix it into some food.
Or is Prescilla off her food from missing Emmy?
Hope all goes well and both 'your girls' are feeling better
soon! Hope the plants all spring back for you, too. :)

I've looked at the maps Kerry and I see the ponds so they may
have come from near there into the hedges at the side of the
road near the pub on the beach.

Kevin may vex me occasionally (and I, him), but, no he's not
insane or cruel. Yes, when I proofread the post, I saw how it
could be read that way. If you ever try writing an entire
story, you wouldn't believe how much proofing you must do.
Bad day, yesterday. Kevin was very sore, but I think he was
lucky to not break anything. Then we told the Tree Service we
were done with them, and they were NOT happy. Of course, they
then claimed we had to pay more than half of what we'd agreed
on, had they done the whole job, but we insisted we were only
paying a quarter of what we agreed on, because they only did
about a quarter of the work. I subtracted the cost of Tordon
(the little stumps are throwing off green shoots, already), the
cost for grass seed, and the cost of the fencing hardware I had
to buy to make repairs. Big argument with them telling us,
"There are ways we can get that money." I doubt it. There was
no written contract.
I need to put on my big-girl panties and learn to use my own
chainsaw. I'm a bit scared of the thing, but after all this . .
. You might pray I don't cut off my own limbs by accident. 8)

I never used a chainsaw, but I think you could do it. It might
come in handy too to use as a weapon the way someone did
recently in a town in Montana. Did you hear about that? The

A wild street brawl at the center of Big Sandy's small
commercial district ended Monday with only minor injuries, but
left many in the quiet farming town shocked by the sudden melee
— which included a chain saw-wielding would-be assailant, a
knife fight and ended with a stolen car racing out of town.
"You could hear the chain saw and you could hear people
screaming at each other," said Drew Page, who was working at a
downtown business when the fight broke out. "It pulled everybody
out of their businesses. People were looking up and down the
street to see what was happening."
The brawl began when a four-door sedan carrying three men and a
pickup carrying two men and two women rolled into the town of
about 600 residents from off U.S. Highway 87. According to
Chouteau County Sheriff Vern Burdick, none of the seven people
involved live in Big Sandy — or even surrounding Chouteau
County.
If the "big bad men" come out trying to collect their money,
just start up the chainsaw. What a bunch of clowns they were
anyway. I hope you told them to "Calm down" at some point.

I keep a shotgun handy. Same thing; don't need to load it;
that noise it makes when you 'male rooster' it is generally
enough to convince people you're nuts. ;D
Lol, oh yes. "Calm down." ::)
I really hope he doesn't show up at the house. Sent his check
today.
