Business is okay, the main building has reverted back to a pub
- it’s busier as a public house. The bike side is now in the mot
bay where Mark will continue his MOTs and service parts sales
and that’s actually doing well. The bike season lasted all of 4
months last year and we turned away more wanting the pub, so
October time we gave it a go with offering pub grub on a Friday
and Saturday and Sunday Roasts - we can’t complain, it’s working
for us. Not what we came here to do however, if we stick at
doing what we always have then we would be closing the doors by
now. .

nights.....
"Gmec will be opening properly in March as a public house, not
a cafe. I very much doubt we will have another bike night :(
please do still call in for a brew and a bite to eat when your
over this way....."

The new sign has gone up, the sign of a new era for GMEC. What
was the GMEC, Route 64 Cafe Bar is now ... Gecko’s Coffee House
and Bar ... Due to very difficult trading conditions in recent
times we have had no choice but to restructure the business.
GMEC Motorcycles now takes it’s place entirely with in the out
buildings in the grounds, still operating an excellent MOT
facility, large stocks of batteries, oils, brake pads etc and a
great working relationship with RST. GMEC Motorcycles is now in
an excellent position to move forward and is already thriving
and looking forward to better times. Gecko’s Coffee house
facility is being continually improved to attract and embrace
wider customer appeal. We thank the bike world for their
continued support and you are still very much welcome however we
do need to appeal to everyone. Recent times have been very
difficult however we are looking towards a brighter future -
after the virus , for now though it’s business as usual. Be
careful everyone, take care and we hope to see you all soon
my comments - there's a clear divide between the two now - I
wonder if ppl still get a free cuppa with their MOT's --?

After my prolonged absence, I'm only just catching up with
events!!!!
Do I detect a not so subtle attempt to overcome the enforced
closure of public houses? But surely it won't work because they
can only provide "take away"!

Might find out this week need MOT for Scooter, welcome back FF,
maybe we can use this forum to all stay in touch and feel less
isolation, especially when we move to Bedale where I won't know
ANYBODY!!

Current MOT guidance == copied from Gmec Fb
All Motorcycles and scooters with an MOT expiring on the 29th
March or before must still book theirs in to have an MOT carried
out. If your MOT expires on the 30th of March or after then you
can still continue to use your vehicle with out a valid MOT for
necessary travel.
Should you be wanting GMEC Motorcycles to carry out the MOT
please book it in. We now only carry out MOTs via appointment
only until the Corona Virus risk is under control. Same goes for
the shop, please give us a call or send us a message/email.
Please help us all to stay safe by only travelling should you
really need to. Stay safe guys!!
Vehicle owners will be granted a 6-month exemption from MOT
testing, enabling them to continue to travel to work where this
absolutely cannot be done from home, or shop for necessities.
It will be easily forgotten that you didn't get one in a few
days/weeks/ months/years when they become mandatory again -
suggest you make really BIG diary note BE!

MGF had an appointment for MOT on April fools day because of
expiry date of the 17th. Plan was to tax it for 6 months from
the 1st. Now it can be run legally for the duration of the
summer tax period without the expense of an MOT.
At last some glimmer of a pathetic silver lining to the virus!
The only potential prob being that it is the drivers
responsibility to ensure the vehicle is in road worthy
condition. In other words, this time you can't blame the MOT if
bits start dropping off! Maybe thats the weakness of the MOT
system - everybody relys on it to ensure the vehicle is up to
the job!!!!

Quick update of how to book MOT for two wheelers - cropped from
their fb page this a.m.
Happy Easter Folks! Remember to stay in doors this weekend. The
sooner we all do as we’re told the sooner we can resume to some
normality. GMEC Motorcycles are still operating on an
appointment only basis, please PM us or send us an email should
you need us, the BT Open reach lads have done a brilliant job in
getting us all back up and working again, phone and broadband
however, as you can see from the pictures, Mark and the kids
have been keeping busy in the garden, hopefully by the time
we’re allowed to open the coffee house and bar again we should
have a beer garden 🙂 - please do send us a message or
email should you need anything over the weekend. Oils, filters,
batteries, brake pads etc. Safe distancing is in place and the
card machine is now back working. Stay safe everyone!! We look
forward to seeing you all very soon.
