I Now Pronounce You Condemned

We as Christians are supposed to keep each other on track. We
are supposed to lift each other up. There are some who take that
to a whole new level. They crusade around letting everyone know
as often as they can that they are for sure headed to Hell.
While I don’t believe that is such a bad thing, I do believe
that there is a right and wrong way to do it. Let’s face it, not
all churches are created equal. I was born and raised into the
Methodist doctrine and I spent 5 days a week at a Baptist
school. I now associate myself with the Christian doctrine. I
have attended services at Episcopal, Pentecostal and Catholic
churches. While it seems that all of these churches are all
centered around Jesus Christ and our acceptance of him into our
lives, asking forgiveness and believing that Jesus died on a
cross for our sins, They all do have different beliefs as to
what is acceptable and what is not. I heard one pastor
repeatedly state that men with long hair or women with short
hair or women who wear pants are all bound for Hell. I have
heard very crude, derogatory remarks from another pastor during
his sermons and he would make it ok by saying don’t hate the
sinner, hate the sin. These are just some examples that have
deeply affected me. We as Christians aren’t supposed to condemn
anyone, that is God’s job. Passionately preaching about things
you personally hate doesn’t make for a good sermon, it makes
people hate Christianity. If you happen to be the sinner sitting
in the congregation are you going to feel welcome there or hated
tremendously? I have heard it said that the most devout atheists
were once Christians. I have to wonder if our judgmental nature
has contributed to pushing people out of church rather than
bringing them in. What if we were to approach people, who we
view as Christians that are doing something we disagree with,
and say “That would not be ok in my life, but you have to pray
about it and see what God tells you”? I think Jesus was giving
us one of the most important lessons in the Bible when he said
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. We are all
sinners. Some of us struggle daily to stay on track, while
others seem to breeze through. But the moral of the story is
simply that we are all sinners and none of us has the right to
be the judge and executioner. In fact, Jesus example was to show
mercy and grace. We say “What Would Jesus Do?” then we seem to
do the opposite. Yes, we should help to keep each other on
track, but do it the right way. Don’t make it your life’s
mission to point out everyone else’s transgressions. Show mercy
and grace when you are given the opportunity. Set a good
example. Use every opportunity to be like Christ. Spread more
Love and less Hate. This is, in my opinion, the core of every
Christian’s Values. Be a disciple!

Amen. My sin is no better or worse than anyone else's sin. Open
your arms and accept the sinner and teach love.

Those are very good thoughts. I've studied "Christians" a
lot through the years. Good Christians...people I've admired and
trusted. If you look long enough there will be some little
thing about them or how they react to a situation that you will
disagree with or that you would handle differently. Does it
make them less of a Christian? No. It makes them human. I
believe that everyone has to live their lives grounded in their
basic faith and follow their conscience. Christians make bad
choices. Christians make bad decisions. I believe your
conscience will convict you when you're wrong. A lot of the
time the "wrongdoing" is unintentional. A comment made that at
the time seemed "ok" but later you realize how insensitive it
may be. You have to correct that. If everyone was completely
honest, they would have to admit to some level of transgression.
We aren't perfect! I agree with you....we should help each
other. Support each other and most of all respect each other.
It's a daily journey and some days it's a battle. The main thing
is that on the final judgement day, it will be a one on one. Our
judgement of others won't count or matter. We have to answer
for our own lives, mistakes, and shortcomings. To my fellow
Christian "works in process" : I promise to support you and
encourage you and pray for you. Please pray for me too.
