Favourite running gags

Some of my favourite running gags in the Dudley series:
--the fact that Nell is in love with Dudley's horse (even though
she's engaged to Dudley)
--the fact that in some episodes the fort has several Mounties,
and in others it's just Inspector Fenwick and Dudley--but no
other Mounties ever get a name or play any significant part in a
storyline--they never even have a line to say.
I'm sure I'll think of others. Do any of the rest of you have
favourites?

You call those running gags?

Good question. How do you define running gags? I guess I think
of them as ways of amusing the viewer that repeat over multiple
episodes...but maybe that's too broad a definition. What do you
think? Why are the ones I mentioned *not* running gags, and what
would be?

I personally think those are fine running gags.

Hey AM:

However, a running gag throughout the series was Nell's showing
such interest in his horse (called Horse), that she rarely
noticed Dudley's interest in her at all.

Another running gag is how Dudley's horse is extremely good at
poker! Gives me a laugh every time!
