I would really like to see the source/study that came up with
this figure. I bet it was not scientifically done...and/or that
it was completed for a commercial purpose (to sell some product
like comfortable house shoes). Also, the wording makes me think
that this "fact" was first written up many years ago, since
nowadays people don't often speak of "housewives."

I just found it on "Random Fact Generator" and I think it's was
published in 2007. Things may have changed from then.
I'm doing 3 facts today for the next 3 days:
41% of the moon is not visible from earth at any time.
It is now possible to print human skin with an inkjet printer!

The "Random Fact Generator" site developers find their
information elsewhere, though. And their source could be very
old indeed, or a very poorly designed survey. That's my guess,
anyway.
