       ---------------------------------------------------------
It took her a few moments to realize what had happened. Why did
the ground feel so hard? And more importantly, why was it
breathing? The blast sent the Disciple tumbling forward into...
Darkleer. Ew. Right on top of him too. She was so close she
could smell him. Don't wanna do that again. He guy smelled like
hoofbeast and sweat. Gag. Saying that it was better than landing
on the ground would be lying. Fortunately, her suddenly flying
onto him made him hit the ground pretty hard. Harder than if she
had just lunged at him normally. On one hand, she was incredibly
worried about Psii. That doesn't happen normally, not even when
he's in a fight. He's usually too scared he'll kill someone to
let things loose like that. Something bad must have happened.
But on the other... that blast probably just saved all three of
their asses from getting handed to them by a bow wielding meat
head. She took inventory of herself, just like she did after
getting in a fight with one of her prey. Everything was attached
and in working order. Except... there seemed to be some extra
weight in a certain area. She glared at Darkleer. He'd turned
into an absolute blueberry and was sweating like a pig. And
appropriate response to what she was about to do to him. Nobody
touched her there except for the Signless. He removed his hand
quickly, appoligising about a thousand words per second and
seemed to be wanting to get up. Well hell no to that. Quick as a
whip, she brought her fist back and hit him in the face about
twelve times. One for each second his hand had been there,
adding a little more oomf each time as well. If not for the fact
that he was on the ground, letting his head bounce hard against
the ground with every hit, she wouldn't have been able to knock
him out. Again, good going Psii. This was one lucky break. Plus
it felt very good to break his nose.
Once that was done, she got to her feet to survey what had
happened. She, Equius and Nepeta were far enough from the blast
that they'd only been knocked back. Nepeta was helping the blue
blood to his feet, though she was having some trouble. They were
going to have to fix that leg of his. They'd been lucky. Almost
everyone else was on the ground. Someone groaned and moved close
to the blast sight. It was Redglare's decendant. Which didn't
make sense. That close to him, she shouldn't even be in one
piece. The Disciple smirked. Guess stick boy managed to at least
save his friends. Speaking of... The olive troll darted across
the clearing, jumping over bodies until she reached where she'd
last seen her Signless. Leave it to her love to land in the most
glorious way possible, butt in the air and face in the ground.
She grabbed the tail end of his cloak and tugged, flipping him
up and onto his back. He covered his face with his hands and
       groaned.
"I hate it when you do that."
"How would you know? I've only done it once."
       "Yes and I hated it."
She laughed. "Whatever you say hot stuff." Seeing that Dolorosa
wasn't far away and her Nubby was fine, she went to help the old
rainbow drinker. Behind her Signless rose to his feet and yelled
for everyone. A few moans came in response followed by a few
more. For the most part it seemed that the lowbloods were down
for now as no one lower than Kanaya responded. Hopefully none of
them were hurt. But right now it was time to check on Psiioniic.
The cat woman picked a trail through the fallen and burnt bodies
towards the main tent with Signless following her.
Psiionic lay in the center of a blackened krater, blue and red
spark shooting off every now and then. He was in bad shape. His
yellow clothes were torn with black burn marks giving him
misshapen polka-dots. He looked like a dropped puppet and she
could already see the makings of a huge yellow bruise across his
head, which was also starting to swell on one side. She clenched
her fist so tight, she drew blood with her sharp claw like
nails. Nothing would make her happier than to beat the
Highblood's painted face to a freaking pulp for this, but based
on the Highblood shaped hole in the tent, Psii had done a pretty
good job. The idiot had even lost his stupid headband.
"He'll be ok." It was Redglare's descendant, Terezi who spoke.
She must have caught the worried look on Disciple's face. The
olive troll gave her a fang-filled smile.
"Of course. I doubt he'll ever die." Signless managed to sit him
up right but was having trouble moving him. Together with
Disciple at his feet and Signless holding him by his shoulders,
they managed to get the Psiioniic out of the krater and onto
solid ground for Dolorosa to look at. The adrenaline from the
fight was fading now, leaving her sore and tired. It'd be nice
to have a nap, she thought, stretching her sore muscles.
"KARKAT'S BEEN HURT!!!" So much for that nap.
       O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{ O{
Tavros woke up to someone, Vriska, kicking him in the side. What
had happened? Why did his head hurt so much? And... what was
with all this bright red blood? What had happened? He was
       suddenly very worried about Karkat.
"Good. You're up." She loomed over him, frowning. A few yards
away lay Karkat. Oh crap. One of the E%ecutor's arrows had been
shoved into his side. He wasn't able to get anymore detail from
where he was, especially when Vriska moved in his line of
vision. "Now get up." She nudged him with her boot again.
Groaning, he sat up. Wow his head hurt. It felt as though
someone put it in a nutrients warming container and set it on
high. Spots over colors danced in front of his eyes but his
girlfriend hauled him to his feet anyways. He really needed to
remember why he liked her so much. It took him a second to
steady himself. His back still ached where one of the adult
trolls had managed to hit him. He still wasn't entirely used to
the fact that they were around so many adult trolls. Was he the
only one who felt like that or were the others trying to adjust
as well? Ok. Not the time to think about that.
"You're going to help them fix Karkles while I go raid 8odies."
       She announced.
       "uH, wHY?"
"8ecause they might have some awesome loot. Duh." She looked at
him like he was an idiot. Which would have meant more if she
didn't look at him like that all the time.
"nO, i MEAN, wHY AM i GOING TO HELP kARKAT? i'M, uM, nOT EXACTLY
GOOD AT THAT STUFF." He rubbed the back of his head, a bit
nervous. He didn't like to argue with Vriska. She always did a
fabulous job at making him feel like an idiot.
She sighed dramatically. "How many times do I have to tell you
Tavros? You're a hero. Heroes help people. And since you don't
ever fight, you may as well get some 8lood on your hands the
other way. Now go patch up your 8leeding, helpless friend like
Pupa Pan would. You do want to 8e like Pupa right?"
       "wELL, tHINGS HAVE CHANGED SINC-"
"That's what I thought!" She smacked him on the shoulder before
running over to the closest body. He rubbed his shoulder where
she'd hit him and made his way over to Karkat. As he got closer,
he noticed more things. Like Kanaya who was kneeling next to
him, trying to stop the bleeding. That's not what he really
noticed though. The arrow looked as though it had been stabbed
into his side rather than shot and then shoved halfway up the
shaft. Now whether the attacker had done that or if Karkat had
done that by falling on it, he wasn't sure. Kanaya had pulled
out the arrow and was applying pressure. If the red troll had
been in any kind of shock, which he probably had, Kanaya had
fixed it as the two were now arguing over what to do now,
especially regarding Gamzee. Kanaya was all for sawing him in
half like she did Eridan but Karkat seemed to have some
different ideas. Speaking of the indigo blood, Gamzee lay not
far away from the two. He was a lot worse than Karkat. The back
of his shirt had ragged holes that were still slightly smoking,
revealing ugly burns on his back. Nothing too serious but enough
to make Tavros cringe a bit. He almost would have felt sorry for
him, if not for what his friend had been planning to do and the
bright red blood that smudged across his hand. How Gamzee had
gone from harmless stoner to this, he had no idea. It made him
       incredibly sad.
Someone tackled him in the side, making him stagger a bit and
his body to protest to the new force. Nepeta hugged him for a
few moments before letting him go. Behind her, Equius sat a ways
away dealing with a big hole in his leg. Ow.
"hEY," He greeted. She was one of the trolls he had no problem
with when talking to. Normally he'd stutter but not with her.
She was a pretty awesome friend. "aRE YOU OK?"
"AC is OK!" She purred happily. "Are you though?" She glanced
down at his shirt that was a little crispy for some reason.
"uH, yEAH, wHAT HAPPENED?" She sucked in a deep breath and he
braced himself. Nepeta had one heck of a motor mouth when she
wanted to. As fast as she was talking, it only took a few
minutes for her to explain what was going on. Unfortunately, as
fast as she was talking, he only understood a third of it.
Apparently, something had happened the Psiioniic 'clawsing' him
to explode, literally. He took out all the bad guys and managed
not to murder his friends (plus Gamzee) in the process. Sometime
before that when everyone was fighting, Gamzee stabbed Karkat,
Equius got shot in the leg by his ancestor, Eridan lost his wand
and got himself smacked in the head (Feferi was dealing with him
now), Terezi was halfway crushed by the Grand Highblood, the
Dolorosa lost one of her swords after getting a deep cut in her
arm, Sollux got hit with something in the back causing him to
accidentally skim Vriska with his blast, Kanaya got her wrist
broken, the Signless stubbed his toe, Feferi broke her nose, and
Aradia was still no where in sight. He was still trying to take
all that in when she whisked away to go check up on Psiioniic
for some reason. A shout from Karkat brought him back.
"I AM PERFECTLY ****ING FINE NOW GET OFF ME." He was trying to
get up. That wasn't going to work well. He was still bleeding
and even if he weren't, he'd lost too much blood anyways. Kanaya
let him get up anyways. Based on the look on her face, she was
going the tough love route. Just trying to sit up, Tavros could
tell his friend was having some serious issues. His face turned
scary pale when he did and he looked as though he were about to
pass out. Being the stubborn idiot he was though he kept going.
At least he tried. He made it to his knees before pitching
forward. Well, Tavros couldn't just stand there and let him face
plant so he lunged forward and grabbed Karkat before touch down.
The troll had passed own again by the time Tavros got him laying
       down again. What a moron.
"mAYBE YOU SHOULD, uH, lET ME SEE IF I COULD, uM, sTOP THE
BLEEDING?" He asked Kanaya. He really didn't like messing with
Kanaya too much. She was a good friend and all but... she
freaked him out. The rainbow drinker watched him for a second
       before nodding.
"I Do Suppose It Would Be For The Best. I Know I Have No Idea
What I'm Doing." She admitted. Somehow he didn't doubt that. So
he turned back to his buddy and went to work.
       (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V) (V)
       Any time now.
       696969696969
Ow. ****ing OW. Karkat groaned and opened his eyes, vaguely
remembering what happened after the last time he'd woken up.
That fight with Kanaya and trying to stand up and ****, he'd
actually passed out again like she said he would. Why did she
always have to be right. On the plus side, he actually did feel
better. Someone had taken his shirt off and ripped it into
strips to wrap around where Gamzee had stabbed him. Where Gamzee
had stabbed him. The thought made him sick. Even if Gamzee was a
nutbag, he'd never thought that he'd actually hurt him. He
blamed the Grand Highblood. That guy could not be a good
influence. Somehow he managed to prop himself up on his elbow.
Whoever had helped him had done a good job. Things seemed to
have settled down a good bit with everyone put themselves back
together for the most part. Psiioniic was up again, kinda. He
was still in pretty bad shape. His head was bandaged up and to
get anywhere, he was having to lean pretty substantially on the
Signless. The Dolorosa was nitpicking over him now, making sure
his head was wrapped up properly, trying to make sure he stayed
awake. Disciple was with him too, messing with her- Did she just
pull a yellow headband from out of her cleavage? Karkat looked
around to see what else was going on. Equius had his leg wrapped
up pretty well and Eridan had a headwrap to match Psiioniic's.
Feferi was doing a good job of making sure he was ok. Sollux and
Vriska were in a heated argument about a burn on her arm with
Tavros trying to mediate. And failing. And Kanaya was... Right
beside him giving him a glare that could melt faces. He tried to
move away, which failed and resulted in him grabbing at his
       side.
"It Would Be In Your Best Interest If You Were To Rest." She
said almost sweetly which really meant, 'do as I say or I'll
       bring out my lipstick'.
"I ALREADY TOLD YOU. I'M FINE." He squirmed in the direction
away from Kanaya. Her eyes almost seemed to glint as she brought
her heel down onto his chest, effectively stopping his slow
       wiggle.
"I Think You Should Rest." He was going to die. Something red
flickered at the edge of his vision.
       "KANAYA."
       "Rest."
       "BUT KANAY-"
       "I Said Rest."
"KANAYA!" She looked ready to stake him to the spot when Dave
       started talking.
"S'u... She..." Dave flickered frantically in front of them,
much worse than he'd ever been before. Nothing coming out of his
mouth made sense. It was just random words. He went back and
forth between being his usually cool self and that nervous false
coolness he only had when he was terrified. Sometimes he'd do
the exact same gesture three or four times much too fast or
freeze completely but his words would continue, like when a
video was lagging. Some words were complete gibberish because he
was speaking backwards. It was as though he were overlapping
himself or something. "Down... Guys... Crap... ter... Hur..."
Finally he sputtered out. The clearing was quiet. Obviously
Karkat and Kanaya hadn't been the only ones who had seen and
heard Dave. Even Psiioniic had managed to focus long enough to
know something pretty bad must have happened for him to have
been like that. Or it was just more time shenanigans. Yeah.
Let's hope it was that. The red troll looked up at his
       friend/captor.
"WE NEED TO LEAVE." A movement from the pile of rocks that was
the Grand Highblood sounded. Karkat could physically feel
       himself go pale. "NOW."

       Signless speech #1
So many trolls. But it was time. There was no backing out now. I
       had too.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Lend me your ears!" They ignored me. "Do
you tire of the daily oppression that is our society? Do you not
long for freedom and equality?" Now they were staring at me,
either laughing or calling me a moron, claiming that I would get
culled soon enough. "What if we were to change all that? We have
the power!" A bronze blood in the back of the crowd laughed
       louder than the others.
"Kid. Get off your soap box and go home before you get yourself
culled. We can't do anything. Any troll with a brain knows
       that."
"Of course we can! We're all equal!"
"Of course we are. How about you kill the Condesce and prove
that we're equal?" Trolls around him laughed. He gave me a
       twisted smile. "Go home."
"But-" The bottle that was in his hand flew at me, almost
knocking me in the head. Others followed his example, pelting me
with rocks, trash and even food. A rock hit me in the chest and
I fell backwards into my mothers arms. "DO WE NOT ALL BLEED!?" I
couldn't let this stop me. I had to show them because their eyes
hadn't been open to the possibilities as mine had. Mother had to
hold me back. "DO WE NOT ALL-"
"Signless." I looked into her eyes. This was a battle lost.
Together we fled the town, chased by stones and the angry voices
of the blind. This was only the first step. I would succeed. I
       had to.

MEGA NERD HOMESTUCK STAR WARS CROSSOFUR TIME!!!!
Deep within the Jedi temple on Coruscant, a humanoid sat
meditating in one of the meditation chambers. His species was
new and they had only begun sending their young to become Jedi
within the last two generations. He was of the first Jedi of his
kind and a Seer at that.
Everything flowed perfectly and his mind was clear and at peace,
something that seemed to happen less and less often for him. It
was nice to have a reprieve from the 'voices' that crawled
through his think pan, scraping along the walls of his skull.
He'd been here since early this morning as he had a week off
from his usual duties. The hours had slipped by silently and
uninterrupted and he was in a state of complete zen. Or at least
he was before the vision hit.
Flashes popped behind his eye lids, setting off a shower of red
and blue sparks from around his head. He only caught a few
images and none of them were exactly what you'd call 'happy.' A
war was coming. The blood of millions of innocents, of all kinds
of species, was going to be spilled; even that of his own
species. It would soak the ground in all colors of the
hemospectrum and bright red. So much red. And of all the bodies,
both dead and alive, one stood out to him in particular. Another
       troll like himself.
The troll fell several feet to the ground from where he had been
levitating. He hadn't even been on the ground for a minute
before he was out the door and speed walking down the halls. He
really didn't need to run with those gangly stick limbs of his.
Of course being so caught up in his need to visit the Council,
he managed to slam himself into another Jedi who was rounding
the corner of the narrow hallway. He landed with a thud,
apologizing quickly. He was tempted to dart off but hast never
got you anywhere and this new prophecy wasn't exactly happening
right this very second. He hoped.
"Sollux?" He glanced up at the other Jedi with mismatched eyes.
It was Aradia. She was sitting in front of him, her padawan, a
human boy with rounded sun glasses, at her shoulder to help her
up. At that very moment, she was doing a fine job of ignoring
him. "What's going on? You seem freaked out." That was one way
to put it. He hefted himself to his feet, Aradia doing the same,
though she had taken advantage of her padawan for that.
"New vision. I need to speak with the Council. As in now." He
gave his friend a nod before heading down the hallway once more.
"S-Sollux!" Obviously she wasn't giving up. He'd just let her
catch up to him if she wanted to know anything. And she did. He
could hear her stomping up behind him. She'd never been the most
silent Jedi he'd ever known. "Sollux! What did you see? Tell me
       what's going on!"
"Fine." He said with a sigh, not really checked to see where she
was or slowing down. "Ther-" The cloak around his neck tightened
and he flopped down to the floor like a Popsicle stick fighting
a rubber band. She'd stepped on his cloak to stop him. Short
legs plus tall friend did not equal easy moving conversations.
"You were saying?" She said sweetly, standing next to him now.
He didn't even try to argue with her or anything. There was no
point. "There's a war coming." He sighed. "A big one. And one
person is very important in regards to it's outcomes." Her face
       twisted into a frown.
       "Who?"
It took him a moment to think about it but the information was
already there, as though he'd known all along and was simply
recalling something from memory. "A troll named Karkat. Karkat
       Vantas."

You let out a monsterous belch.
It was late to say the least and you had been drinking the whole
night away. Naturally, the burp sends you into a flurry of
drunken giggling. Burps were so weird anyways. Like, why would
you even call it a burp? It doesn't sound anything like a burp.
It's the same with chickens. Chickens don't go bock. They make
some other weird sound. You're writing down your thoughts the
best you can. You firmly believed in drunk writing. You could
actually get some pretty good ideas out of it. Leaning forward,
you grab the bottle of vodka to the right of your computer. It's
too light in your hand and doesn't make any sound as you swish
it around. You lean back a little too far checking to see if
there's any in it and, with all the grace your drunken mind
possesses, you fall back onto the floor. Laying there you just
giggle stupidly. God, you were so drunk.
After a few long minutes of laughter, you nab the bottle and
hoist yourself to your feet. You were a little too drunk to be
writing so you shut your computer and teeter away to go dump the
empty bottle in the trash. If there were stairs on the way to
your trash cans, you would absolutely be dead by now. That was
probably why your work place was in that part of the house.
You jerk open the door, the sharp Nebraska air already slapping
you in the face, and make your way to the back of the house
where your trash is stashed. As you approach though, something
clangs loudly. You stop walking and listen. There's another
noise, this one softer. Something was going through your trash!
"F-****." You whisper to yourself. You don't want to let it know
that you were there. What if it was some creepy stalker dude
that was looking for your used toothbrush or some s*** like
that!? The great part about living in the middle-of-nowhere
Nebraska was that this was unlikely. The bad part, if it really
was some crazy stalker dude, no one was around to hear you.
Fortunately, this wasn't your first time dealing with trash
raiders. After a raccoon had you cleaning up after it for a
month solid, you'd gotten an electric chain linked fence around
that end of the house. You remembered to actually turn it on
just long enough to keep the raccoon from coming back.
Another clang and you were ready to take whatever it was on with
your vodka bottle raised like a baseball bat. Taking the final
few steps, you whirled around the corner, ready to bash some
heads. And the culprit behind the trash raiding was indeed a...
little girl?? At least, you think so. You only managed to get a
quick look at it when it darts away from the trash cans and out
of the light. You can hear it bang against the fence in it's
blind fleeing. It starts to climb up the fence as well but flops
back down to the ground. Your mind is absolutely not
comprehending this. Everything is fuzzed over from the liquor
and it takes you a moment to grasp what's going on. Oh crap.
What if it was some kid? She'd be stuck here and why would she
need to dig through your trash. This was starting to smell
fishy. Another thump comes from where she ran off and you can
only assume that she's failed once more to climb the fence.
Another fuzzy though crawls into your head. What if she's hurt?
You toss the bottle into the already open can and close the
distance between you and the girl. Damnit you can't see crap in
       this light.
"Hello?" You call into the darkness where you saw her disappear.
There really wasn't much room in your little trash corner but
it's so dark it doesn't matter. "It's ok." You say, slowly
lowering yourself to the ground. "I'm nto goin to hurt you."
Something scuffs in the darkness. Based on how loud the sound
was, whatever it was couldn't have been too far from you. With
clumsy fingers you fish out your phone and use it as a light.
What you see is definitely not what you expected.
  HTML http://i62.tinypic.com/2z4ig01.jpg[/img]
It isn't a little girl at all, just something that looked like
it. It's tiny body is curled up defensively, it's little grey
legs pressed close to it's chest and twig-ish arms covering it's
face. If not for the thin little tail curling around it's knees,
the long furry ears, and the horns, you'd have thought it was
human. Even with the grey skin! It was a ****ing troll! What a
troll was doing out here, you had no idea. Trolls were posh
little animals those fancy Hollywood types liked to keep as
pets. You'd seen them a few times, but only in the media when
the tabloids decided to make a big deal of a celebrity getting a
new pet. You'd never seen one up close before.
"Holy ****..." You mutter. The little creature responds your
voice and peers out at you from behind her fingers. Did you know
troll eyes were yellow? Well. Now you do. And they were really
cool looking too! You just stare at the troll for a few minutes
in drunken silence before your senses come back to you.
"Troll... What are- What... How did you get here?" Trolls
understood humans right? You thought they did. If they didn't,
who cared? You probably wouldn't remember having this
conversation in the morning anyways. The little troll lowered
her hands and turned the full front of her stare onto you. God
she had big eyes. They were a weird dark grey and reflected
       light like a cat's.
Now that you get a better look at her, you can see her bony
chest through the neckline of the ratty t-shirt she was wearing.
Now that you think about it, her arms and legs seem a little too
sharp too. Her face was too thin, that's probably why her eyes
looked so big. You didn't know **** about trolls but you knew
that they weren't supposed to look like that. You can't help but
wonder when the last time she had a meal was. It sure would
       explain why a few things.
"Wait here." You wobble to your feet and run back inside.
Hopefully the troll will do what you say and stay there. It
takes a few minutes and almost face planting twice before you
manage to return with a box of saltines in your hand. It was the
first thing you saw so you just went for it. Thankfully the
little troll is still there, waiting patiently. Where ever she
came from, her owner must have trained her well. You unwrap a
stack of crackers, nearly crushing them in the process, and
       offer one to her.
She's skeptical at first, constantly glancing at you and the
cracker. How she can, you have no idea. Eventually she reaches
out reaches out and swipes the thing from you before you can
even blink. Damn she was fast. And hungry. She's already eaten
the thing in one bite and is staring at the box in your hand
like she might fight you for it. You pull out two crackers this
time and she grabs them up just as fast. By the tenth cracker,
she's no longer shoving them down her throat. It's horrible that
she got to this point but you can't help but smile at her. She
was cute. Her owners must really miss her, she seemed precious.
You're totally zoned out when she crawls over to you. It's not
until she tugs the tube of crackers out of your hand that you
even notice. You let her take them, they were just crackers
after all, but she only forces out a few of them before giving
the tube back to you. She plants herself in front of where your
sitting and nibbles away at them, suddenly looking incredibly
       tired.
Naturally, you want to pet her. And nothing stops you. Your
rational mind was nice and liquored up so there was no nagging
about how she might have fleas or that she might bite you. She
tenses as you reach out, stopping mid-snarf. It's not until you
begin gently rubbing her soft hair that she relaxes, and even
then, she still gives you wary glances in between nibbles.
Something about her behavior seems a little off but you're too
out of it to notice. A weird thought worms it's way into your
       head.
"Wanna go inside?" You ask, slowly drifting away. You were drunk
and tired. Definitely time for a crash. The troll looked up at
you with huge eyes as though you had just given her the moon.
Silently, she nods. So you get up and lead her into your house.
You don't really register what she's doing but her eyes are as
wide as platters. She stops just inside the door and won't go
any farther. You just leave her be and head to your couch, the
box of crackers still in your hand. You're out before your head
       hits the cushions.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Your glorious morning is started with you rolling off the couch.
Goddamn it. You don't even try to get up. Your head felt like it
had been hit with an anvil, the lights were too loud, and
something you ate last night was having a serious battle with
your stomac. This was not going to go well.
With a loud groan, you roll over to grab the blanket you keep on
the couch for situations just like this. After a few minutes of
groping for the stupid thing, you find it and tug it over
yourself. Just as it falls over your head, you see a pair of
tiny grey paws standing right next to you. Having completely
forgotten about the troll, you jerk to an upright position and
stare at it. Of course it's darted across the room and behind a
chair by then thanks to your sudden movement. You can see it
peering out at you from behind the plush white chair. And it
       looks absolutely horrible.
Now that you have a decent light source, you notice details that
you missed last night. She's absolutely filthy and her hair is
clumped an matted. Her nails are much too long with ragged edges
and some almost missing from breaking. Her skinny figure is much
more obvious with bones jutting out just a little too far. But
that's not what you notice first. Oh no. The first thing to draw
your eye is the shining choke collar around her neck. You can
see the dark green bruises from where it's dug into her skin.
There are bruises on her arms too that look increasingly like
hand prints. Tiny cuts riddle her hands and feet. It's
disgusting and horrible, enough to make you forget about your
pounding headache. You can feel your mouth go dry feel the bile
rising, which is not a good mix when you have a hangover by the
way. It takes a moment before you can face the idea. She'd been
abused where ever she was before. Abused and neglected. You
hadn't been around her for long but seeing that, making that
realization, fills you with a ferocious desire to protect her.
If you were to ever meet the person who did it to her, you'd-
you'd-... Well. You don't know what you'd do. But something
would definitely happen. Hurting an animal was not okay. Ever.
You were absolutely going to make sure she got better, screw
returning her. Whoever did that didn't ****ing deserve her. But
first, you needed your head on straight. Getting to your feet,
much to your dislike, you wobble back to your bathroom which is
unfortunately on the other side of the house. Couldn't you have
passed out closer to it? The entire time, the little troll is
following behind you, keeping a respectful distance. Getting
into the shower is interesting if only because she wanted to go
with you. You keep telling yourself that she's just an animal,
that it's not that big a deal but between her appearance and
that gleam in her eye, she's just too human. Instead, you tell
her to stay put. She immediately sits down. You can only hope
that she does as she's told and doesn't start ripping things up.
       That would suck.
One ice cold shower later and you're ready to get to work and
turn up your heater! The first step is getting that disgusting
collar off. It's actually pretty easy. You keep her still with
more crackers while you take it off. It's worse than you
thought. The ****ing thing had been put on wrong. Instead of
just digging into her skin like it was supposed to, this one had
been put on in a way that would actually choke her. Like a
noose. You can see little scars around her neck from where that
exact thing must have happened before. She's completely rigid
the entire time, nervously nibbling away at her cracker. You
can't imagine why. If someone had done this to you, you sure as
hell wouldn't want to get up close and person with the creatures
that had done it to you. Instead, she's a perfect angel. You
have a feeling the bruises have something to do with her
       behavior.
The next part, the bath, was much more interesting. You didn't
want to use your tub in case she had something but hosing her
down outside didn't seem like much of an option either. It was
so cold you were afraid that she would get sick from her lack of
body fat. You didn't have a big enough bucket to put her either.
That left either the sink or Rose's old bathroom. You'd rather
not have to wrestle with the faucet on the sink so Rose's
bathroom it was. She follows you around as you get things ready,
scrounging up wash rags, little bath toys that littered the
floor of your own bathroom, tub stickies and other things you
think you might need. You even score a bottle of baby shampoo
that you had tucked away for some unknown reason. Once the tub
is filled up with water, the real challenge begins. It's obvious
that she wouldn't take well to just anyone picking her up. You
hope that she'd let you since you'd been so nice but when you
make a go at her, she's out of the room faster than you can
blink. ****. The first time though, she doesn't go too far. Just
around the corner. The second time is a little different. That
time she just 'nope's and is on top of a shelf before you even
know what to do. She was fast. When you call her down, she just
stares at you with her huge eyes, showing no emotion at all.
However, you have her greatest weakness against her. Saltine
crackers! She'd left the bag when she ran off so you take
advantage of it and try luring her down with the crispy goodies.
She makes it to the edge of the shelf, her head bobbing up and
down like a cat's, trying to determine if she should go for it
or not. She chooses not to, instead just staring at you until
you give up. A sneaky idea comes to you. Dashing to your pantry,
you grab the key ingredient and return to her. She's still
there. Quickly, you unscrew the lid of the jar and let the fumes
waif up to her. It doesn't take long before she's on the ground
again with a spoon full of peanut butter in her mouth.
Apparently she's never had it before and has absolutely no idea
what to do with the stuff. You trap has succeeded.
Before she knows realizes what just happened, you take of
that nasty t-shirt she's wearing and plop her in the tub. At
first she tries to jump right back out but after a few minutes
the warm water takes effect and she relaxes enough for you to
clean her up. The entire time she keeps hold of that peanut
butter and you seriously hope she doesn't get sick from it.
Without the shirt, you can see even more signs of abuse. Bruises
spot her back and there are even some scabbed up cuts. The
longer you look at them the more you want to tear the person who
did this apart. They were terrible and the little troll was
nothing but sweet and polite. She didn't deserve to have been
treated like this. It takes a grand total of three baths and two
shampooings to get her cleaned up. It was like she'd wallowed in
mud or something. Every so often she'd whimper or flinch away
from you during the process so you did your best to be gentle.
That's probably why it took so long. No way were you going to go
scrub crazy with those gnarly bruises on her back. Some jackass
put gum in her hair too so after the bath you cut her hair off
short. The entire time she doesn't make much noise or struggle
which you're finding increasingly distressful. What on earth
happened to her? You'll have to ask her later. Assuming she
could even talk. You'd heard that trolls could talk like humans
but so far, you hadn't seen any proof of that. Maybe there was
something wrong with her? You push the thoughts out of your
head. It doesn't matter. Clean her up first. Then questions.
Clothes are a bit more difficult. Nothing in the immediate
surrounding would even fit her. So you let her wait wrapped up
in a towel while you look for something. After digging through
your clothes and part of your sister's, it finally hits you. You
had a box of Rose's old clothes in the attic! With a shout of
glee, you run off to go get them. The little troll follows after
you where ever you go, trailing the towel behind her. You have
to tell her to stay put when you pull down the latter to the
attic. You didn't want her following you up there. It was too
dangerous. So, of course, she's exactly where you left her when
you bring down the dusty old box. You dump the thing on the
couch, coughing from all the dust. Even with the old clothes, it
takes a while to pick one for her. Either they were too big, too
small, or just didn't seem quite right. At last, you found
something that would work for her. An old purple dress with
little black cats spotting it. She's absolutely adorable in it.
By the time the whole process is finished it's way past lunch
time. You don't have much in your house so sandwiches for lunch!
The troll doesn't seem to mind. She just seems happy to be
getting enough to eat. You take the chance and start asking her
       questions.
"Do you have a name?" You ask. She nods in reply, a bit too
occupied with tearing into a sandwich to answer. "What is it?"
It takes her a moment to answer.
"Nepeta." She's so quiet that you nearly have to ask her again.
It's almost like she's afraid of saying the wrong thing and
doesn't want to be heard. Which is ridiculous. It's her name.
       You find it unsettling.
"It's nice to meet you Nepeta." You shove the feeling off. "My
name's Roxy." She just nods again. "How old are you? Or do you
know?" This time she shakes her head. You take a moment to
evaluate her. She looks like she'd be about 6 in human years.
"Where are you from?" You can see her stiffen, like she was
remembering something horrible. You're about to tell her that
she doesn't have to answer when she starts talking.
  HTML http://i60.tinypic.com/ncza7k.jpg[/img]
"I live on the other side of town." She informs you. "Near the
mall." It's quiet for a few minutes. You know where that is.
Heck, you'd shopped at the mall plenty of times. It was
disgusting that she'd been in such a horrible situation not even
an hour away. You'd never really thought much about animal abuse
before. Sure they showed those commercials on tv all the time
but that didn't have anything to do with you. It always seemed
like it was in an entirely different world. It seemed like it
would never touch you. And now it was staring you in the face.
"Are you going to make me go back, Miss Roxy?" The look on her
face sends your stomach into knots. It makes your heart hurt.
"No. No I'm not." And I'll make sure you never go back there
       again.

After that, going through the maze was interested to say the
least. First off, no one had the slightest idea on how to get
out of the place. During the fight, everyone had managed to
loose all sense of direction, maybe with the exception of the
Disciple who had a general direction to go. Right through the
thick rose bushes. Because you could absolutely do that with
everyone hurt. So Karkat being the amazing leader he was, just
picked a direction at random and that's the way they went.
Signless was a bit too occupied making sure Psiioniic didn't
fall into a coma to take command. So the whole group tromped
through the maze in at least pairs of two. Signless and Disciple
took turns carrying Psii, who babbled continuously. It was
better than him passing out and based on the look on Disciple's
face, he was never going to live this down. Equius was using
Nepeta as a crutch. How she managed to hold the lug up was a
miracle. And Sollux got charged with carrying Gamzee since he
was the only one with working psionics at the moment. He kept
Gamzee floating a few feet away from everyone else so that if he
did wake up, he couldn't hurt anyone. With Vriska and Eridan
bothering him every few minutes, he kept dropping the indigo
blood. Most were ok with that. Karkat was currently leaning
pretty hard on Terezi. The whole blood loss thing left him quiet
and tired. An eerie silence settled on the whole group. They
were just waiting for the confirmation that the Grand Highblood
was alive and on his way to destroy them. Finally, after what
seemed like sweeps, they found a second clearing. It wasn't as
big as the first one and lacked the terrifying
nightmare-inducing carnival tent, but it was a change from the
mind-numbing tangle of shrubs that was this maze. And, of
course, right smack in the middle sat Aradia looking as happy
       and cheery as ever.
"Ab0ut time. Y0u guys t00k forever!" She quipped happily.
"WHAT. THE ACTUAL. ****." That was the only thing that broke the
silence. And, of course, it came from Karkat. No one else could
think of something else to say, though, most everyone seemed
seriously pissed off. Because how the fuck does one react to
that. "YOU COULDN'T HAVE HELPED US YOU DICK HAULING GRUB VOMIT?
DID YOU THINK WE DIDN'T NEED HELP OR SOMETHING? CAUSE GUESS
WHAT? YOU'D BE WRONG ABOUT THAT." The smile on Aradia's face
didn't falter as Karkat yelled at her. In fact, she just seemed
amused by the whole thing. It did falter however when a loud
roar echoed through the air. The Grand Highblood was awake and
       angry. Sh*t.
"I think we'd better get going soon." Dave flickered onto the
scene, not far from Aradia. He was looking a lot better than he
had last time, standing there looking like his usual cool self.
He didn't even flicker more than once. It might just have been
the best any of them had seen him since dropping into Alternian
past. Karkat would have unloaded on his ass two but, again, the
whole blood lose wasn't helping anything. Terezi readjusted her
hold on him, nearly making him scream. Dammit he hurt. He was
going to have a serious talk with Gamzee later. That fuckass.
Despite the fact that they'd finally managed to reach their
objective, to find everyone, and it was now time to go back, no
one seemed ready. Signless and Disciple shared a look and many
of the kids simply shuffled around.
"What happens when we go 8ack?" Vriska finally said. "Does
everyone just go 8ack to normal???????? I dunno about everyone
else 8ut I'd rather not be dead again." Feferi, Tavros, Nepeta,
fuck it, most of the kids seemed in agreement with that
       statement.
Aradia didn't seem to get it. "I th0ught y0u liked being dead.
       Y0u g0t t0 g0 0n a l0t 0f adventures, didn't y0u?"
"Well......... Yes. 8ut what a8out these guys???????" She waved
at the ancestors. "Do you have any idea the shit they went
through for us???????? Normally, I don't care 8ut in this
situation, a captain doesn't leave her crew 8ehind!!!!!!!!"
Another statement that many seemed to agree with. Karkat was
glad he didn't have to say it. He'd been feeling the same way
but a wave of lightheadedness effectively shut him up before he
was able to speak up. The Signless seemed to have a different
       opinion.
"You guys don't need to worry about us. We knew what we were
getting into." He said, trying to make his usual hand gestures
as he talked. Since he currently had a jacked up psionic on his
shoulder, that didn't really work out too well. Disciple was a
       different matter.
"Signless. We might have known what we were getting into but I
don't want to be beat to death in a juggalo maze. We could at
least get out of here before they disappear." Her answer was
another furious roar from the aforementioned subjuggulator.
"WHERE EVER YOU ARE!" He was getting closer. Karkat looked
around the clearing for a path other than the one they'd just
come from. Unfortunately, there were none. Of course not. There
wouldn't be with their luck. Even with the fact that their doom
was slowly stomping closer, many were still reluctant. Another
silence settled. They just didn't know what to do.
"Yo guys. I'm sure you're all upset and conflicted about this,
but we really have to go and preferably before I get ripped into
tiny unironic bits." Dave gave a little wave as the attention
turned on him, as though to say 'yeah. I'm still here.' That
seemed to get everyone to accept the fact that this whole fiasco
was finally ending. Kanaya and Vriska gave the Dolorosa an à
deux, in various degrees of awkwardness. Tavros and Feferi were
crowding around the Signless, the fuchsia blood giving him a hug
that would make Disciple proud. Speaking of, the cat woman was
in a long embrace with her descendant and even gave Equius a
small hug as well. She then tried to wipe off as much sweat as
she could. Even though Psiioniic was still kind of out of it,
Sollux had made his way over to him with Eridan following like
an extremely grumpy puppy dog and was trying to do well....
something. It was kind of hard to tell what he was doing since
he was absolutely horrible at whatever it was. Gamzee was still
knocked out. Karkat didn't really know what to do, so he stayed
to one side with Terezi propping him up. After everyone else had
made their fair wells, the Signless walked over to them. He was
an entirely different troll than the one Karkat had first met.
He lacked that strong leader aura he'd given off the first
night. In fact, he almost seemed like a doofus, standing there
ever so slightly awkward. It was like that persona had fallen
away as time passed and Karkat hadn't even noticed until now.
"It was a wonder to meet you." He said at last. Whether he was
talking to Terezi or Karkat, neither of them were sure, but it
didn't really seem to matter. Karkat didn't respond but Terezi
gave a nod and a thank you and dragged them both over to where
the others had gathered. In the short while that the Signless
had spoken to them, Aradia explained that everyone had to hold
onto each other or else they would get scattered like last time.
They'd lined up randomly for the most part, with the exception
of Equius, whom only Nepeta and Aradia would touch. Even then,
they'd covered their hands with fabric. So there was a reason
that Nepeta kept the sleeves on her coat so long. The only ones
not included were Dave, Terezi, and Karkat himself. Terezi
grabbed onto Feferi, not really bothering with Karkat since he
was pretty successfully drooped all over her. Aradia and Dave
began to do their time stuff when Karkat shoved himself away
       from Terezi.
"WAIT!!" The entire place seemed to still. "COME WITH US." He
could just keep himself steady. So long as he didn't do anything
drastic, he would be fine. And, he wasn't sure if it was just
his heart beating in his ears but, it seemed like he could hear
the Highblood's footfalls now. Signless glanced between the
       Disciple and Dolorosa before responding.
"We can't Karkat. We wouldn't belong there." This wasn't what
       Karkat wanted to hear obviously.
"YOU'LL DIE IF YOU DON'T. YOU DON'T- YOU DON'T-" All he could
think about was all those stories he'd heard of the Signless.
How he became known as the Sufferer and why. Red tears were
building up in his eyes and he couldn't stop them. "JUST COME
WITH US YOU THICK HEADED SH*T. ALTERNIA'S FUCKED ANYWAYS. NO ONE
WILL KNOW!" The Signless simply gave him a small shake of the
       head.
       "Karkat... We're needed here."
"LIKE HELL YOU ARE. YOU DON'T SUCCEED IN THIS, YOU KNOW. YOU
FAIL! YOU FUCKING FAIL! AND EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T, YOU'D DIE SOON
ANYWAYS. THERE'S NO WAY OUT." The Signless just gave him a sad,
pained look, as though he'd known all that all along.
"Karkat. You're just making it worse." It was Terezi. She was
reaching out to him but he refused to let her touch him. Not yet
       at least.
"AND HOW CAN YOU FUCKING EXPECT US TO JUST LEAVE YOU AFTER
EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE. DO YOU REALLY THINK WE'RE THAT SHITTY?
JUST COME WITH US. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DIE JUST YET!"
"I'm sorry Karkat. I really am." The Signless started to turn
away from him, the final signal that this conversation was over.
Karkat reached out and grabbed one of the frayed edges of his
cloak. Signless had to tug away from the young troll to get him
to let go, and even then it was only because a piece of cloth
had torn away. With Karkat free from contact with the Signless,
Terezi took her chance and grabbed him. Aradia seemed to know
exactly what was going to happen and, before Karkat could react,
Dave and Aradia joined forces to launch everyone back through
time. Karkat just managed to see the huge, looming body of the
Grand Highblood turn enter the clearing before everything turned
a red as bright as his blood and then black.

You pretty much give her free range of the house after that,
though she just follows you instead. Since you have no intention
of letting her go back to whoever her previous owner was, you
spend the rest of the afternoon figuring out what to do with
her. You're pretty sure you can't just dump her at the pound
either. Even if they took trolls, it just wouldn't feel right.
Besides, what if the original owner popped up and got her again?
Or someone else got her and couldn't take care of her? Or
someone else got her and they ended up being an animal abuser
too? No. You were not going to do that. That left you with two
options; find a friend to take care of her, or do it yourself.
You doubted you could convince any of your friends to take on a
troll so you needed to figure out a place for her to stay. You
also needed to learn about trolls but you'd save that for later.
Instead, you set your sights on cleaning up the guest room. A
box seems down right wrong and Rose would kill you if you'd put
her in her room. Putting her in your room would also be a very
bad idea. With your ungodly sleeping habits, you doubted she'd
       get the rest she'd needed.
Cleaning up the room is interesting to say the least. Since you
never actually had guests, the room had officially unofficially
become the dumping grounds for stuff that didn't really have a
place. For the most part, you just rearranged stuff. The boxes
that were scattered on the floor and on the bed moved to the
walls. You thought that with Nepeta following you around, she'd
be in the way. Instead, when she saw what you were doing, she
joined in to help you. You don't let her do much, she's so
skinny you're afraid she'll get crushed by a box she's carrying,
but pretty soon all the boxes were carefully lined up against
the wall. That left a twin bed, a small dresser and a closet. It
wasn't much but it would work. It doesn't take long until you've
remade the bed with white sheets and an big dark pink blanket
with a heart on it. Once again, Nepeta tries to help out and
this time you let her. Making the bed when you're little is the
best and she does seem to enjoy it. You spot her watching the
sheets when they flutter down after a toss. As soon as she
notices you watching her though, the smile disappears. It's good
to see the room cleaned up. However, Nepeta's extremely tired
afterwards though which concerns you greatly.
"Ta da!" You exclaim, moving in front of her with arms out wide.
She stares at you, thoroughly confused. "This is officially your
new room!" And then her eyes are the size of saucers. To say
she's amazed would be an understatement.
"Really?" She asks, little more than a whisper.
"Of course!" She looks around the room with a whole new
perspective. Growing up with a sister several years younger,
you've seen some seriously happy kids before. But you've never
seen anyone look as happy and surprised as Nepeta did just then.
Not even on Rose's first Christmas. She wanders around the room,
as though she's trying to store every nook and cranny of it in
her memory. Grabbing onto the soft fabric of the blanket, the
little troll stares at you like you're a saint.
       "I- I've never- I-..." She looks like she's about to cry, she's
so happy. She almost does too. "C-Can I hug you?"
Well f*** if that doesn't just melt your heart. "Sure." You say,
leaning down. She walks over to you like she's afraid you'll
suddenly tell you no. Her body's skinny and tiny and frail. She
smells like the forest and feels like hugging another human.
Maybe 'pet' isn't the right word for her after all.
Over the next few days, you start to learn more about her. First
and for most, she loves cats. Not like. She loves them. You
regularly catch her acting more like a cat than... whatever she
is. She take cat naps a lot, always stretching out afterwards
just like a cat would, hands in front and butt in the air.
You've learned not to let her catch you watching her. It's
absolutely adorable and when she does manage to spot you, she
immediately stops and usually looks guilty. She must have been
scolded for it at her old home. If you could even call it a
       home.
Speaking of sleeping habits, she slept buried under a pile of
scarves. This one you didn't notice right away since you give
her her privacy. It wasn't until you'd stuck your head in her
room to get her up that you'd noticed. She was about as graceful
a sleeper as you were. Meaning that you found her halfway out of
her pile in the full glory of dramatic-arm-flail sleeping
position, the scarves tossed around her as though she'd
exploded. The only thing that actually remained was that heart
blanket which she'd managed to cocoon the lower half of her body
in. It's you're laughter that wakes her up. You feel bad when
she jerks off the bed in surprise, but that just adds to the
humor and laugh harder. The look on her face is even worse as
she immediately sets to work gathering up the scarves,
apologizing every five seconds along the way. It takes a few
minutes but you finally stop laughing long enough to tell her
it's ok and that she can keep them if she wants. Nepeta's a
little confused at the news but doesn't argue. Instead she just
plops them back on her bed and you two get the day started.
She takes up playing some of your video games and you are
perfectly ok with that. It gives you time to not only work on
editing your drunken creations but to also look up more
information about trolls. According to the internet, trolls had
different blood colors. Ok, you knew that much but you find out
that it actually does mean something. Apparently the different
colors coordinated with the body temperature a troll might have
as well as some of the sickness that they could get. A low
temperatured sea troll had to be treated differently than a hot
blooded maroon troll. Nepeta was an olive blood based on the
charts you found, putting her pretty much in the middle of
everything. You also find out that trolls are supposed to eat a
special kind of food made by Crockercorp. You do some online
comparison shopping and find out that even on sale, the s***'s
pretty expensive. Based on how much Nepeta's been eating and how
she hasn't been getting sick from eating human food, you decide
to skip the Troll-Chow. Even though the trolls in the
commercials seem perfectly fine with it, the stuff looks about
as appetizing as rat crap. You also look at some of the clothes
that could be custom made for trolls, which would made sense
since they had tails and gills and ****, and nearly spit out
your martini. If the Troll-Chow was expensive, then a person had
to be crapping gold to afford fancy clothes for their troll.
Nepeta was just going to have to deal with more of Rose's
hand-me-downs cause no way in hell can you afford that. You do
end up taking her to Walmart the next day to get some clothes
though. You expected to get some flack for it when you visited
the store with her but at most you get some curious questions
and that's it. You can ignore the stares and Nepeta doesn't even
seem phased by the attention so the trip goes off without a
problem. By the time the two of you make it home, Nepeta has a
whole new array of clothes that actually fit her. Mostly just
pants and shirts, many of which sport a cat theme or are green,
and one or two dresses. She also asked you for a blue winter hat
with a cat face on it and damn it if she didn't melt your heart
when she did. She was going to be one hell of a con artist once
she got over her initial hesitation around you. While you're
there, you do a little grocery shopping too and stock up on some
kid friendly snack foods. You let her pick out what she wants to
eat and, after some prodding, she goes to town. You have to tell
her no when she tries to load up the shopping cart with the
entire candy isle but other than that, she doesn't go too
overboard. She immediately grabs up anything with a cat on it,
including three boxes of Frosted Flakes, animal crackers, iced
animal crackers, and a box of some weird japanese candy she
found in the asian section. Were you spoiling her a little?
Probably. But after living where she had, she deserved a little
       spoiling.
Unfortunately, you notice something new by the second week she's
there. At first you thought it was just some weird troll thing
you hadn't found out about yet, despite having read hours worth
on the internet about it, but now you're starting to think it's
something else. She's started coming out of her room later and
later and it's as though she's lost her energy. Even though
she's never gone flying through your house like a bat out of
hell, you can tell she's very energetic. She was always
perfectly behaved but you could tell she wanted nothing more
than to go outside and run around for hours. When you offered to
play tag with her the other day, she hesitated but you could see
it in her eyes that she wanted to tear out of the house that
very instant and play. This little escapade ended up with your
horribly out of shape ass on the ground and her freaking out
because she was afraid of getting in trouble. You had to explain
that you were just a fat ass and after that she slowed down
considerably when running from you. Now though, now she
practically looks dead. You find her on sitting on the couch
just staring at the wall, or standing in the middle of the room
as though she's forgotten why she's there. She's started eating
less too, which worries you even more. That girl could go
through food like nothing you'd ever seen. But that's not what
got you into an absolute frenzy. Nepeta let you pick her up. The
entire time she'd been with you, she'd never let you do that.
Even when you went to Walmart, she either walk along beside you
or, when she wanted in the cart, she'd just climb in herself,
something that seriously freaked you out the first two or three
times she did it. And the one time you'd managed to sneak up on
her and pick her up, she flipped the fuck out and nearly took a
bite out of you. When you saw her going in for the attack, you'd
dropped her and both of you had an apologizing contest.
It was late and both of you were still up. You, of course, were
just getting into another drunk writing session and had come
downstairs to get more whiskey. You'd already had enough to get
yourself nice and tipsy and Nepeta was just standing there in
the middle of the room once again. Being the genius drunk you
were, you decided it would be a good idea to sneak up behind her
and give her a little scare since she had been so lifeless
lately. You shouldn't have been able to sneak up on her, you
were about as quiet as someone tipsy could be, but Nepeta didn't
move as you came closer. When you were close enough, you stuck,
easily sliding her off her feet and up into the air in your
arms. You pulled her close and gave her a good long hug. Nepeta
struggled against you a little but after just a few minutes she
fell still and just let you hold her. That snapped you out of
some of you drunken fuzziness. She should have tried to attack
you or pushed you away, it wasn't like she wasn't strong enough,
or something. This was wrong. Very, very wrong. Panic is
starting to get to you. She's too hot in your arms. It's like
the life has been sucked out of her and her normally green
tinted face has paled into a flat grey. And even though her eyes
are open, they're glazed over with fever. Immediately, you shift
her in your arms so you only have to use one arm to carry her,
grab the phone and phone book and head to her room. You've got
her under her usual pile of scarves with her blanket on the
bottom when you get ahold of the vet's office. It was the first
one on the list in the phone book and you can only hope that
they're still open. Your hope it dashed when you're met with an
answering machine. You systematically go through the list, only
to be met again and again by an answering machine. It was too
late, almost midnight now, but at last you finally reach someone
at an animal hospital. The girl on the other end of the line is
obviously tired but she's human and that's good enough for you.
"Hi, I have a troll and sh-" The lady cuts you off right then
       and there.
"I'm sorry ma'am. We don't treat trolls here." She was perfectly
polite but it was still irritating. You're Nepeta was sick and
       needed help.
"But she's very sick and needs to be seen as soon as possible.
Please?" You can hear the lady sigh into the phone. Apparently
it was too late for this shit. In her mind at least.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. We can't do it. There is however a smaller
clinic that will take trolls not far from where we're located.
They're not open right now but you may be able to get in
tomorrow morning." Damn it. You'd wanted to get her looked at
before then. But on the other hand, Nepeta obviously wasn't in
the right condition to travel and it was late, way too late for
       a trip to the vet's.
"Can you tell me where they are?"
"Of course ma'am. Do you have something to write this down
with?" Her tone implied that she didn't want to deal with you
the next morning so you'd better write it down now. After some
fumbling around, you manage to scrounge up a pen and piece of
paper. "Alright. It's called Breathe of Life at 108 Page St. The
       phone number is 864-8726."
"Thank you. Thank you so much." You finish up writing the
number, seriously hoping that you'll be able to read it in the
       morning.
"Of course, ma'am." After a long pause she adds, "Good luck with
your troll," and hangs up. You just stare at the phone in your
hand for a few moments. What you were hoping for, you don't
really know. You glance as Nepeta sleeping under her pile of
scarves. Her little face is screwed up tight, undoubtably from
fever nightmares. Gosh you just want to bundle her up and make
it all go away for her. She's had such a sucky life already, she
deserved better. It's not like you were going to get anymore
writing done tonight so you settle down in the chair you'd
brought in. Seems like you were going to stay here all night.

A hand pulled her along. It was slightly sweaty and, more
importantly, hot. Why were humans always so hot? She much
preferred the cooler touch of a fellow troll. Of course, living
in the middle of the forest as she did, that didn't happen
often. She missed the few times it had. Aradia, even though she
was warmer than a teal blood was still cooler than a human. And
Feferi was even cooler. Which made sense. She was the Heiress
after all. Being the Heiress meant she was a fuchsia blood, the
only fuchsia blood in all of Alternia for that matter. Those
were the only two she'd met though. And it hadn't been for long.
Aradia FLARPed with her for a while before her lusus dragged her
away, babbling something unintelligent as it did so. It was
rather odd. Aradia had given her a very strange look as her
lusus took her away. It had been.. unsettling. And after that,
she never played with her again. Lusus orders. Feferi was
different. There wasn't a lusus keeping her away, just distance.
She'd met the sea dweller when she went on a trip with her own
lusus to the sea side. It had been loads of fun and when she'd
met Feferi on the beach one night, they'd talked and played for
hours. Her lusus took her away too though. It rose up from the
waves and tugged her slowly back into the sea. It made noise too
but, unlike Aradia's lusus, Feferi's was deep and garbled. And
as she went home, Feferi had given her the exact same look
Aradia had. It was getting annoying really. What? Was there
something wrong with being a teal blood or something? But the
next day, her custodian took them back to the hive and she never
       got to see Feferi again.
She turned and peered around her Momhuman. Two taller humans
were walking in front, one talking with the Momhuman while the
other was looking over something on a clipboard. If she had to
guess, she'd say that they were male. They looked similar enough
to the Dadhuman. But one had much darker skin and the other had
bright red hair. Gosh she wished could have red hair. But alas,
trolls only had black hair. On the other hand though, they were
wearing white. Icky, flat white that looked like it'd taste
awful. The walls of the hallway was white too. Or at least pale
and chalky. In reality, they were pale blue but from the light
coming in from the windows, they looked white. She skirted
around the light as best she could but it didn't work very well.
There were simply too many windows. So when she absolutely had
to, she'd run across the light to avoid getting burned. Trolls
didn't do well in the sun after all. The ceiling was white, the
floor was white, the chairs were white, everything was white,
white, white. And it was awful. She wanted nothing more to take
out her chalk and draw all over everything. This place needed
more color!! She couldn't stay in a place so white and boring.
She was going to die if she had to smell nothing but musty, old
flour all the time. She'd have thought that with the way humans
dressed in bright colors and complicated patterns that they'd
have more interesting buildings. So far, this was a serious
       disappointment.
They turned the corner into a big white room filled with people.
Most of the humans didn't respond but she could she the trolls
among them because they were the ones that did. A girl with
mousy brown hair and another with short black hair cropped
around her head. There was a boy who responded with huge shy
eyes. And a girl in the back with long blond hair. She looked at
her dead in the eye. The blond girl was going to be fun. She
could tell by the glint in her eye. They were all very good at
pretending to be human but she could still see their horns and
grey skin. They wouldn't get away from her that easily. And then
the humans had led her back out of the room again. It seemed
like all this white would go on forever. Just door after door
passed them as they walked and the humans just kept on talking
and talking. Momhuman would occasionally say something to her
but she didn't really answer. She was just bored and wanted to
go back to her hive. The point of the visit to this stupid
place? She didn't even know and, she didn't really care either.
After what seemed like a year, they stopped in front of a door.
The human with red hair opened it for them and Momhuman dragged
her inside. It was small with two beds on either side. One bed
was a mess, like someone had wrestled with the sheets and then
left in a hurry. Little drawings of meowfiends covered the wall
and the darker human muttered something about not letting her
have crayons anymore. A small trunk was at the end of the bed
and the top looked as though it had been chewed on, something
pretty impressive since it was made out of some seriously heavy
wood. There must be a really weird human who slept there. The
other bed was perfect with white sheets folded in straight lines
and a perfect pillow at it's head. The two suitcases that
Momhuman had brought her was sitting in the middle of it,
destroying the image with it's harsh splash of red among all the
white. Good. This room needed some color. But those were hers.
What were they doing here of all places?
"So what do you think?" It was the darker human who spoke to
her. She didn't say anything. She still didn't understand why
she was in this boring hive or why her stuff was in this
respiteblock. It certainly wasn't her respiteblock. Also, she
didn't like the darker human. He had no hair and smelled like
coffee. She didn't like coffee. It was too bitter. It was
       Momhuman who spoke next.
"Are you ready Teresa? This is going to be your room from now
on. The people here will treat you very well and Mommy will come
back for visits whenever she can ok?" The Momhuman reached up
and gently touched her on the cheek with her hot hand. "Mommy
loves you very, very much. Just remember that, Teresa. This is
for you're own good." Gog she was annoying. And why did she keep
       getting her name wrong.
"My name is Terezi. Not Teresa. And you aren't my lusus so stop
fussing over me like you are." She smacked Momhuman's hand away.
Any pretense of a smile fell off the human's face and she
actually felt really bad about it. Terezi didn't say anything
though as she started crying. She didn't know how to. So she
stared down at the ground and watched her feet shuffle back and
forth. She really liked her bright red shoes, though, she
couldn't remember where she'd gotten them. When she didn't say
anything, the human with red hair pulled Momhuman away and they
left, the Momhuman still crying hard. The darker human crouched
down like Momhuman did and looked her in the eyes.
"Now why would you say something like that? You upset your
mother. Did you want to? Is that why you said that?" He seemed
so concerned. She couldn't understand why though. It must have
been a human thing. Adult trolls weren't nearly as caring. She
felt like she had to answer his question though so she slowly
shook her head no. "Ok. Why then?" Terezi didn't know why. It
made sense. She was a troll and Momhuman was just that, a human.
She wasn't her lusus. She wasn't her custodian. So... why did
she feel so betrayed by her? Why did she feel like the Momhuman
was leaving her? That she even deserved to hurt too? Sure, she
watched Terezi sometimes but she always got her name wrong and
even then, she was still a human. Humans and trolls didn't mix.
She still felt like she needed to give the darker human an
answer but she didn't have one. Fortunately, he let her off the
hook. He'd been watching her as she mulled over the question and
had seen her expression as the emotions and thoughts whisked
through her head. He'd been here at this psychiatric ward for a
long time now, dealing with these kids. He knew what they did
and that sometimes they said things they didn't mean without
really knowing why. That's what had happened just then. He only
hoped that the mother would understand as well.
"Well alright then. Someone else will put all your stuff up. Why
don't we go get some lunch and meet the others? That sound
alright to you, Teresa?" He gave her a smile and held out his
       huge hand.
"I said it already. My name is Terezi." She said but still
reached out and grabbed his hand. It was much bigger than the
Momhumans and much cooler. She'd almost would have said it was
like holding hands with a bronze blood. Almost.
"Alright. Terezi then." He stood up again and led her back down
that horrible, long, white hallway. She was curious as to just
who these 'others' were. And, most of all, she wanted to know
       who that blond troll was.

Karkat jerked awake to the sound of Terezi's sharp laughter.
"Did you have a nice nap?"
