Vic kept learning about the latitude longitude lines and
appearently learned how to find which line he was by having a
compass. He didn't know. He didn't care.
Dixie sat down in her seat in the arm room and picked up her
paint brush, feeling awkward as she held it. Art was described
in different medias. Paint, drawing, sketching, coloring, that's
what people thought of it as. But Dixie thought art was whatever
you wanted it to be. Danicng, in her case, room designing, even!
She sighed but painted a little portrait of a silver cat, with
one green eye and one purple one. She smiled. It didn't look
like much. It looked ugly. But Dix liked it.

Kathy slid into the middle school art room and back into one of
the backrooms where a huge tub of clay was kept. She didn't care
that this wasn't her class. Or that she was on the wrong floor.
Her creative mojo was flowin', the cooking teacher kicked her
out last time, and d.mn it all if she wasn't gonna have fun with
it.

Dixie quietly watched Kathy, looking puzzled, but resumed
painting her kitty, glancing at the girl every now and again.

With the guide of nimble fingers, the messy lump of wet clay
became a small sphere, then two hollowed out ovals, then lower
part of a bird, until it looked like an untextured hummingbird
without a bottom. The bottom would come later, after it had been
fired. She took a thin tool and began digging into the sort
clay, giving it more life. By the time she had finished, the
small sculpture looked so realistic, it looked as though if you
got to close, the mud colored bird would fly away. Of course the
bell had probably rung by then for the next class.
