YOU'RE THE BEST AROUND [ name change // open ]

Badgerkit had asked her why she didn't have a name, like the
rest of the Clan. She was just Flora and, in his eyes, that was
boring. She hadn't thought about changing her name - it seemed
like a hassle to change what she had to respond too, but it
seemed... like it was needed. She didn't want to be an outcast,
and changing her name would be the first action to change that.
"Badgerkit, wake up." she hummed to her child, only moving away
from his sleeping form when he opened his eyes. He stumbled
after her as she entered the main camp and timidly addressed the
Clan. "Um, okay, everyone? I've decided to change my name. I'll
be going by... um... Flowertail, from now on." the fem winced
slightly at the name, but nodded. It wasn't too bad, and Flora
was just another word for Flower.

Maplefur wasn't doing anything in particular when the queen
announced her new name. Can you just change your name like that?
I thought there was supposed to be some big ceremony. On the off
chance Maplefur was wrong she kept her mouth shut.

Lightningstar hadn't heard at first since she was concentrating
on grooming her thick fur, but she soon flicked her ears and
eyes to the young queen giving her soft-spoken announcement. The
leader was a bit surprised as well, but didn't feel offended by
the slip of the rules of their tradition. She was never much of
a rule-follower anyway, she only did so as to earn her position.
Now that she had it, it didn't matter so much in her eyes as
long as the code was followed. That was, really, what mattered
and kept the clans morally stable. Besides, Lightningstar was
much more glad to hear that the queen had officially accepted
herself into the clan. She was a GoldClan warrior now, and she
didn't need Lightningstar's special blessing to achieve it. Of
course, she would still give it to her. She stood up and walked
over to the newly named Flowertail, a proud smile on her face.
"Flowertail," she said, as if repeating the name to hear it out
loud once more. "It suits you well." Not that it was much
different than her former name, but clan names had much more
meaning than normal names, it seemed to her. It represented your
growth and achievement in the clan; it claimed you.

Silentstripe, however, wasn't as easy-going about this as
Lightningstar was. Why was she so chill about this? There was
supposed to be a ceremony. He felt that kits could just announce
their apprenticeship and get training at the age of say, four
moons, and his leader would be fine about it. Flowertail
obviously knew nothing about the Clan's life if she thought she
could get away with this without a ceremony. Or so, that's what
he thought. The silver tom glanced at the new "warrior",
grumbled something, and turned away.

Since Lightningstar was okay with it Maplefur didn't mind. She
walked over to the queen. "Uh congrats. Flowertail is a nice
name." Maplefur sat in front of Flowertail.
