Silentstripe had been out late that day, and the sun was just
about to set by the time he made it to the border. He wasn't
chosen for the dusk patrol, so he figured he'd go out on his own
and finish whatever the patrol didn't get to. His fur rose along
his spine and he shuddered with satisfaction. Maybe if he kept
up his hard work, he'd actually have a chance at becoming
deputy. The gray tomcat froze as he the scent of a HazeClan
warrior grew thick. He stood on the border, waving his tail
slightly as he waited for the cat to appear.

Said HazeClan warrior was Crow-wing. The large tom's amber eyes
had been concentrated on the mists for the most part as they
usually were, and when he found he was at the border he lifted
his head slightly. He wheezed quietly, a cough rattling in his
chest as he tried to make out scents. He caught Silentstripe's
scent near instantly and glanced around to try and spot the lone
GoldClanner.

Silentstripe began to pace back and forth. The scent was strong
now, and it seemed as if the warrior were standing right in
front of him. He froze as he heard a raspy cough, and his fur
prickled along his spine. "Who's there?" He growled lowly,
squinting his eyes to see through the light fog. He could see
the dark tom-cat clearly now. Definitely a HazeClanner.

facing the other tom. "Why are you so close to HazeClan border?"
He approached slowly, his tail low and gently sweeping the
marshy ground.[/font]

Silentstripe looked the tom up and down, scanning him for any
weakness in case he attacked, but he couldn't help but get
locked to his gaze for a few moments. He blinked, swishing his
tail back and forth. "Because our borders touch, and I have to
patrol my borders," he said simply, keeping his eyes on the
HazeClan tom-cat. "I'm Silentstripe. Who are you?"

slightly, seeming to ignore the brief moment of staring. His
ears perked slightly and he huffed at the question. "Well,
Silentstripe, I am Crow-wing." He suddenly gave the slightest
lurch and coughed forcefully quietly, holding back most of the
coughs that threatened to come sputtering out. He took the time
to briefly gaze over Silentstripe, his ears twitching slightly.

Silentstripe frowned slightly. He saw that eye roll. Did this
cat think he was stupid? No way. "Nice to meet you, Crow-wing,"
he replied, shifting his paws slightly. His paws ached from his
walk, and he felt uncomfortable. He flinched as the HazeClan
warrior broke into a quiet coughing fit. "Are you sick?"
Silentstripe asked, flicking his ears back slightly. Didn't they
have a medicine cat?

am not sick. The ancestors have given me a gift and I refuse to
stifle it with herbs." His eyes narrowed slightly, his tail
flicking stiffly. He was tired of cats pointing his coughing
fits out, even if the tom was a stranger and showing some
concern. He can stand it if it's his friends pointing out his
ironic concern for others rather than himself, but that was
about it.[/font]

He narrowed his eyes, flicking the tip of his tail. "Well pardon
me, I never knew that greencough was a gift," he said with a
dismissive snort, turning slightly. He wanted to leave, but
something held him in place, and he couldn't lift his paws to
walk away. He turned his gaze back to Crow-wing, keeping his
eyes narrowed and his iris thin as he thought about what he
meant by 'a gift'.

growled slightly, but was steadily relaxing best he could. He
might cause a worse coughing fit if he didn't relax, and even he
knew that could end badly. He took to watching Silentstripe's
brief movements. Why were they acting and actually good
terms?[/font]
