can you hear my heart beat? (p)

It was just about dawn, with the sun peeking over the horizon.
Today was a rare day, as the fog that usually obscured
everything from sight had thinned out. Morningstar had just
woken up and was looking up towards the sky, simply thinking
about the reason behind it. Eventually, he chose to disregard
it, climbing down from the branch he had been on in favor of
looking for someone. "Spiderscare? I'm going on a patrol, if
you'd like to come with me."

Spiderscare's nose twitched, and her eye peaked open to see the
tom. She huffed and stretched first, pulling her paws towards
her face. After some contemplating, she pushed herself to her
paws and scampered around the sleeping bodies in the den.
"Will it just be us?" she asked, turning to clean her fur some
more. She didnt see any apprentices tagging along, nor any other
warrior struggling to get out of their nest. Not that she
minded, she enjoyed the idea of patrolling with her brother, and
only her brother.

"Yeah. I thought we could just take a walk, but realized we
should probably get something done while we're out there, so I
decided we should check the borders while we're out there and
make sure GoldClan hasn't been trying to push onto our land
again," Morningstar explained, glancing at her once or twice
while he was talking to make sure she was following along with
what he was saying. "If you need a minute to wake up, it can
wait for a bit longer."

"Yeah, I understand." Spiderscare hummed, stretching out her
back once more. When he offered to stall for a second, the
she-cat shook her head. "No, no! Its okay, I'm awake enough."
she purred, tail swishing. "Just lead the way. I'm sure I'll
wake up more once the morning fog hits my face." the new warrior
insisted, her paw pulled towards her chest, as usual.

"Well, if you're sure..." He stood up once more, listening as
she continued to speak. At her last comment, he glanced around
once more before looking at her. "Actually, it's pretty clear
today... I wonder why. It's one of the reasons I wanted to go on
a patrol. There might be some reason for it, some intruder or
something, and I just want to make sure everything is
alright."[/color]

"Oh?" she blinked, looking around at the camp. Now that she
thought about it, it was usually more foggy, even in the camp.
"Okay, I see what you mean. Maybe the spirits are scared of
something." Spiderscare suggested, deciding to take the lead and
walk towards the exit. If the spirits were scared of something,
though, then she should definitely be.

"I really hope not," he responded, walking alongside her as they
exited the camp. "If they're scared, then we probably should be
too. But either way, it's better to know if it's something that
can endanger us, or something that's upset them, right?"[/color]
he asked, wanting a confirmation. He was still pretty new at
this, honestly, and was hoping for an assurance that he was
doing alright through her agreeing.

"That's what I was thinking." the she-cat murmured, keeping pace
with him. Even as they left the camp, she could see that the fog
wasn't getting any thicker. She shivered briefly as the sun
kissed her fur, which didn't happen often. "Cats are gonna start
talking, you know." she murmured after a brief silence. "Someone
is going to say that the mist is thin, that our ancestors aren't
with us today." she scented the air, looking away. There was a
hare not too far off, watching them warily as it munched on a
few berries.
"It would make sense, since we aren't exactly following their
code, regarding the deputy." she hummed. Usually, the code was
just background noise to her, as being a rogue she found herself
a little immune to it. Even though she was raised under it, she
was also raised under the fact that rogues did what they want,
and a bit of her always wanted that life, just to see how it
was. It just happened that the topic of deputy was constantly
buzzing in her den, which made sense, considering only warriors
could be chosen, and then warriors that had apprentices at that.
"Have you been thinking about it, at least?" she asked
curiously, slowing her steps and watching the rabbit, just as it
watched her. She made no move, and neither did it. It was
slipping into a sense of security, and she was letting it.

"That's why I thought I should come check it out as soon as
possible," Morningstar replied, sharing the same worries she had
about cats talking. "I want to solve the problem before everyone
starts to worry about it." He noticed the hare out of the corner
of his eye but he decided to leave it alone for now. At her
mention of a deputy, he gave a sheepish smile. Honestly, she was
probably right, but there was no harm in checking, right?
Besides, the person he had in mind had not yet mentored any of
the apprentices, and therefore could not technically be chosen.
Then again, neither had the other warrior he wanted to appoint.
He decided to explain this to her.
"I have. The problem is, the only good choices I have at the
moment haven't mentored any apprentices yet, and so it still
wouldn't completely solve the problem. A deputy needs to have
mentored one apprentice, at least. You see my problem?" he
asked, slowing down as she did and glancing over at her.

That was a predicament. Spiderscare flicked her tail in
agreement, still eyeing down the piece of prey. Before long, she
launched, and took it under her paws. She nipped its neck,
easily taking its life. Once it was done struggling, the she-cat
brought it back, dropping it at the paws of her brother and
motioning him to eat. "I'll catch some more on the way home, so
eat now." she hummed, before moving on.
"Well, the Gods have been forgiving thus far. Perhaps if you
promise them, that the deputy will get an apprentice as soon as
possible, then they will be okay with it?" she asked, head
tilted. "I mean, Snakepaw is almost done his training, and
Owlkit is almost ready for it. Maybe switch Snakepaw over for
the remaining days, then get Owlkit her apprentice name?" she
tilted her head some more, somewhat mimicking his head tilt.
