[ idk. i'm getting back into writing fanfiction and i thought
this would be a good start. ]
It was, quite obviously, night when the two felines took to
traveling. They were the last of their group to finally leave,
as the others dispersed into the new Clans. These two decided
the rogue life, but one of them was much to heavy with kits to
get far with that idea.
Not too far into HazeClan territory, the queen started to kit.
Her mate had no idea what to do, and sat helplessly as she
panted and kitted. Soon enough, two kits were beside her,
suckling like their life depended on it. It did, actually.
Despite being tired, the queen purred, and affectionately named
them with the help of her mate.
"Flora," she pointed to the thicker she-kit, who's muzzle and
legs looked as if they were dipped in milk, and the rest seemed
to be a copy of her father's brown tabby coat. "Fauna." she
named the second born, who's toes seemed to be the only white
part. The rest seemed to come from her, yet instead of a point,
it was the whole body. A tortoiseshell.
"Alright, great, now we have to get going. I can smell a
patrol." her mate hush whispered, his claws digging into the
dirt beneath them. She grimaced as she tried to stand, her tail
flicking as she swayed. She picked up Flora, while her mate
picked up Fauna. The tom wanted to leave fast, but he was
starting to notice how much kitting had taken out of his love.
"I smell rogues, Featherwhisker!" a young tom's voice sounded
from beyond the bushes. The new mother froze, as did her mate
before he pushed her along. "Right over here!" he called again.
The two hurried their steps and, in their rush, the tom dropped
his tiny daughter. He cussed under his breath, and took a step
to go fetch her. He spotted a reddish brown stocky tom and
faltered.
The small tom was sniffing his daughter and looked around.
"Featherwhisker.." he called, a little less enthusiastic. A
large gray tom emerged from the undergrowth and joined him. The
two whispered before the smaller tom brushed some dirt and bugs
from Fauna's pelt and picked her up. As she mewled, the new
father shook. His mate was trying not to cry, but neither budged
from their spot.
When the apprentice and mentor were gone, the tom turned to
their remaining kit and licked her fur, a single tear leaving
his eyes as she continued to push his mate along. In the warrior
code, it was said that no kit shall be harmed, no matter their
heritage. He could only hope that this Clan followed the code
moreso than his did. And with that, the family continued to
leave, abandoning their smallest child.
"Daisywing, we have a new kit for you." Morningpaw hush
whispered. His tour on the territory had been cut short because
of the rogue child. The queen, who lost one of her children not
too long ago, only peaked open her eyes.
"Morningpaw, you're not a kit anymore, pranks like this are not
okay." she scolded, her tail sweeping around her remaining two
children.
"He's not lying, dear," Featherwhisker joined them, after
speaking with the leader. He padded over to his mate and gave
her forehead a lick before sitting down beside her. "She still
smells of rogue and fresh milk. I suspect that she was just born
recently." he continued. His mate blinked the sleep away and
gazed at the dust tortoiseshell hanging from the new
apprentice's jaws.
"Her name is Spiderkit." he mewed, placing her down in front of
the queen.
"Now, why would you name her that?" Daisywing asked, still
staring at the child. The Gods took one away from her, why would
they give one back?
"She had lots of spiders in her fur. I think she was dropped in
a nest - don't worry, though! I picked her clean before I
brought her in here." he explained quickly, tail lashing
nervously. "You'll nurse her, right, Daisywing?" he asked,
finally.
After a bit of silence, the white and black she-cat nodded,
pawing the feeble kitten towards her. "Of course, I'll feed her.
I'm not going to let her die." she ended her sentence with a
purr, as Spiderkit instinctively pressed her face into the warm
stomach and began drinking.
"Alright, Morningpaw, I think you deserve a nice sleep. We'll
continue your tour when we go on the sunhigh patrol, alright?"
Featherwhisker promised, headbutting his mate and escorting his
apprentice out of the den. The tired brown tom gave a nod before
tumbling towards his new den, flopping into his nest and falling
asleep.
"Morningpaw! Careful, Spiderkit is under your paws again!"
Daisywing called as she quietly groomed her litter. The little
tortoiseshell was, indeed, stalking her brother figure. Yet,
when being called on it, she stood up and pouted.
"Daisywing! I was hunting!" she hush whispered, her tiny voice
filled with dismay. Morningpaw stifled a chuckle and pretended
not to hear anything as he ate a small mouse. Spiderkit noticed
and continued her uneven hunting crouch, launching and landing
on the tom's tail. He jumped up in mock surprise, a big grin on
his face.
"Wow! Spiderkit, I didn't know you were there!" he laughed. She
pouted, looking away.
"Yeah you did." she muttered, a bit disappointed that her master
plan was ruined. Morningpaw noticed the sadness, flicking his
tail.
"Can you show me your hunting crouch?" he asked, hoping to
distract her before he left. He had to travel to the MoonTree,
after all, before receiving his warrior name. Spiderkit grinned
and nodded, crouching down. After adjusting her a bit, the tom
let out a purr. "That looks great, Spiderkit. You may be the
best hunter this Clan will ever see!" he praised, but it wasn't
long before her adopted siblings ran over.
"What about us, Morningpaw?" Graykit squealed, lowering himself
as well. His brother, Blackkit, followed in suit. Morningpaw
praised them too, and was, thankfully, saved by his mentor.
"Morningpaw, its time. Come eat these herbs, and get going."
Featherwhisker grinned, the sit-in medicine cat sitting next to
him. Morningpaw nodded, trotting over. The younger tom was
easily taller than his mentor, stockier too. It was about time
that he was taking this journey. Spiderkit was too busy with her
adopted brothers to realize Morningpaw was taking his leave.
Before long, Daisywing called them for supper, and Spiderkit
watched a brownish red tail leave the camp's entrance. The camp
was busy enough for the child to slip out and follow her big
brother.
"Up to the river, and then follow it down." Morningpaw was
reciting to himself. He walked slowly, as he had a day and a
half to complete this mission. He scented the air, a frown
consuming his features. There weren't usually foxes in the
marsh, but it seemed as if there were enough here to build their
own Clan. He shook his head and continued on to the river.
Spiderkit hopped along, as quiet as ever, and following him. She
scented the foxes, too, but couldn't see the danger. Not too
long after, the child spotted beady eyes staring at her from a
bush. "Morningpaw...." she called, yet the tom was too far to
hear her quiet voice. The fox began to growl and stalk forward.
"M-Morningpaw..!" she called again, this time catching the tom's
attention. The fox launched, and the kitten let out a shrill
scream. The apprentice backtracked and found the two, one being
flailed around by the other. The fox must've still been growing,
as it wasn't too big, but it still overpowered the child.
"Spiderkit! No!" the tom then launched into battle, and before
long, the fox fell to the ground, blood pooling around it, and
Spiderkit was limp on the ground. Morningpaw limped towards his
sister and nudged her. She was still breathing, thankfully, and
he picked her up before moving as fast as he could towards camp.
When he arrived, Shinefall took care of them, having been the
sit in from before. Before long, Shinefall told the apprentice
that Spiderkit was stable, and their leader called for a
meeting.
"Cats who are able enough to catch their own prey, gather
beneath the meeting tree." It didn't take long for everyone to
gather, thankfully. "As you all know, Morningpaw was sent out
for his journey to the MoonTree. It turns Spiderkit thought it
was her time, too, and the two were attacked by a fox." a ripple
of gasps sounded in the camp, and eyes turned on the apprentice
as he leaned on the medicine den's wall. His head tilt made his
headache worse, yet he ignored the gazes.
"Morningpaw fought is hardest, and I have word that the fox he
fought is now dead from his blows. Now, even though he could not
complete his trip, I believe his bravery and strength is enough
to call him up here, and honor him with his full name." she
purred, turning towards the tired tom. "Morningpaw, come here
please."
Eyes wide, Morningpaw started to pad forward, but not before
Treefur, his mother, hurried over to clean him up. Amused purrs
arose from the crowd as his cleaning finally finished and he
joined his leader.
"Morningpaw, do you wish to serve your clan for the rest of your
life, until you retire as an elder?" she asked, silencing the
crowd with a swish of her tail.
"I do." he meowed confidently, puffing out his chest.
"Then, by the power vested in me, and in the name of the gods, I
name you Morningrose. HazeClan admires your courage and
strength." She rested her head on his, accounting for his head
tilt, and he respectfully licked her shoulder.
"Morningrose! Morningrose!" the Clan broke out in cheers.
"You will sit vigil tonight, and go on the sun-high patrol
tomorrow. Thank you, Morningrose." the leader purred, before
dismissing the Clan. A few of his apprentice friends
congratulated him, tails swishing with envy. He only smiled and
nodded, as he wasn't allowed to speak. He walked, more so
limped, to his guard spot and sat in silence.
His mind replayed the image of Spiderkit being tossed around
like a ragdoll, and he winced. He should have been more careful,
more thoughtful of is little shadow. The moon rose in the sky
and Morningrose watched it, his breathing quiet and his eyes
already drooping. He heard some pawsteps and saw Shinefall,
Spiderkit hanging from her jaws.
"She won't stop whining about you." the she-cat explained a she
pressed down some moss, placing the injured kitten in it. He
nodded, wrapping his tail around her still form. She let out a
feeble whine, much akin to when he first found her, and pressed
into the warmth.
"I'll keep you safe." he broke his vigil for her, only to stay
silent for the rest of the night. The moon was still clear,
meaning the gods were not angry with his betrayal. Thankfully.
"Its no fair! I was born, like, a moon before you guys!"
Snakekit growled as Daisywing hurriedly cleaned her children,
including Spiderkit. Snakekit's mother, Badgermask, cuffed him
over his ear.
"That was before you decided to fill Lightpaw's nest with fire
ants." she reminded him. He continued to grumble as Morningrose
trotted over, Lightpaw beside him.
"I'm still itching." Lightpaw pointed out as his mentor settled
down beside Spiderkit, who was still waiting to be groomed. He
took the spot, and his kid-sister purred quietly. It wasn't long
before the leader hopped back onto her branch, and called the
Clan together.
"We have a few apprentices to make today." she purred. Despite
her horrid look, the she-cat seemed as peppy as ever. "Greykit,
Blackkit, and Spiderkit, please come forward." as she called
their names, the three hurried forward, Spiderkit lagging due to
her awkward leg. "Until you three are full warriors, you will
receive your apprentice names." They nodded in unison.
"Shinefall, your mentor taught you well, and you know many herbs
in the absence of our medicine cat. I would like you to mentor
Greypaw." the white and grey she-cat nodded along with her
leader, leaning forward to touch noses with her new apprentice.
"Rippledwhisker, its been a while since your last apprentice,
and Smalltail seemed to turn out fine." the clan let out a
communal purr as Smalltail, the she-cat in question, covered her
face in Iceburrow's chest. "I would like to give you Blackpaw.
Train him well." the two touched noses, and the ceremony
continued. Rippledwhisker settled beside Badgermask and his son,
who was still pouting.
"And finally, Firedash." The Clan collectively turned to the
massive orange tom, who's pelt was scarred beyond belief.
Morningrose bristled, as Firedash had been the most rude warrior
he has ever met. "Featherwhisker learned well from you, and in
turn the Clan continues to receive great warriors. I would like
you to take Spiderpaw under your guidance, before you head to
the elder's den." He gave a stiff nod and touched noses with his
apprentice, who seemed oblivious to his harshness.
"That isn't all. I've decided, finally, on my deputy." The
leader called. Whispers broke out in the clearing. The leader
let them continue before flicking her tail. "Morningrose. You
are strong, courageous. You remind me much of a tom back in my
day, who would've led the Clan I once was a part of amazingly.
If I am to lose my last life, I want to know that my Clan will
be handled well." she explained. The young tom stared, and
nodded slowly.
"It would be an honor." With that, the Clan began chanting.
"Greypaw! Blackpaw! Spiderpaw! Morningrose!" it wasn't long
before the Clan dispersed, and Spiderpaw endured her first day
of training.
"You're having kits?" Spiderpaw grinned as she sat with
Smalltail. The she-cat nodded, ears flat.
"Don't shout it too the whole Clan, Spiderpaw!" Smalltail
squeaked. "I haven't told Iceburrow yet." beside them, Firedash
was frowning.
"If he isn't happy about it, I'll-"
"This is why I wanted to tell you with mom around."
Smalltail stuck out her tongue to her father. "But she's out
with Greypaw, teaching him how to hunt."
"Don't worry, Smalltail, I'll keep Firedash in line for you."
the lanky apprentice promised. "Ah, I can't wait! They'll be so
cute, Smalltail."
"Don't knock yourself up, Spiderpaw." Firedash warned, giving
his apprentice a friendly shove. Just then, Snakepaw, appeared
on her other side.
"Are we talking about kits? What, are you pregnant, Spiderpaw?"
he grinned, only to flinch when his mentor approached and cuffed
his ear.
"Snakepaw, cut it out or I'll have you check the elders for
ticks again." Iceburrow threatened, tail lashing as he sat
beside his mate. "But, really, what's with the talk about kits?
Is someone expecting?" he asked, as clueless as ever.
"I'll never understand why you fell for the stupid one,
Smalltail." Firedash grumbled as he walked away, flicking his
tail to signal the start of their patrol. Snakepaw and Spiderpaw
fell in stride beside each other, the latter ignoring the
former's attempts at jokes. Smalltail and Iceburrow lagged after
Smalltail whispered in his ear.
"Alright, kids, show me what you got." Firedash hummed, getting
into his battle pose.
"Spiderpaw, you can come in now." a quiet voice came from the
nursery, just as the proud grandparents, Firedash and Shinefall,
left the den. She scurried in, tail twitching excitedly. Beside
the queen was one small, cream colored lump of fur.
"Oh, she's beautiful." Spiderpaw cooed, ear twitching as she sat
down. "I'm sorry about... um..."
"Pigeonkit. He walks among the stars now, so don't be too sad."
Iceburrow hummed, turning his gaze towards his tiny daughter.
"Its still a happy day. Your brother said that Owlkit will grow
to be an amazing she-cat." Greypaw had been training underneath
a stand-in medicine cat, so of course he would have some
knowledge about this.
"I trust that his prediction will come true." Spiderpaw nodded,
before dropping the mouse she was told to bring and saying her
goodbyes. She ran into Morningrose outside the den, and despite
his smile, he seemed frazzled.
"Hey, Spiderpaw. You wanna go on a walk?" he asked, his voice
level and not showing his worry. Spiderpaw hesitated, before
nodding.
"Sure, let me just tell Fire-"
"He already knows. C'mon, now, while the sun is still in the
sky." Morningrose ushered the tortoiseshell out of the camp,
tail lashing. She struggled to keep up, but soon enough her
brother slowed down, looking over his shoulder at her.
"What's gotten into you? You look like you've seen a badger."
Spiderpaw huffed, catching her breath. The tom looked both ways
before settling down and heaving a breath of his own.
"Our leader is dying." he stated simply.
"Everyone knows that, Morningrose. She doesn't come out of the
den, and when she does, its easy to see how harsh her
green-cough is." Spiderpaw rolled her eyes. It had been the talk
of the Clan for weeks, now. Owlkit's few moments in the news are
sure to be taken away by a cough in the leader's den.
"No, Spiderpaw. She's dying." He emphasized it, eyes narrowed.
"She ordered me to get my nine lives tonight. She's not even
sure if she'll make the night." He continued, tail twitching.
Spiderpaw was frozen, then perked up to speak again.
"Well, why are you so nervous? She gave you her blessing, didn't
she?" Spiderpaw asked, tail lashing as she still tried to
process everything.
"Yeah, it's just... What if they don't?" His gaze turned up to
the sky, which was hard to see through the mist. Spiderpaw
followed it, only before shaking her head.
"If they didn't want you do, Morningrose, then all this fog
would be gone. But its not. Your ancestors are here, right now,
encouraging you to go." Spiderpaw huffed, before putting on a
smile. "I know you'll be a great leader. In fact, you'll be the
best, even better than Deleriadreams herself." she bumped her
head into her brothers chest, purring up a storm. He kept quiet,
tail lashing behind him.
"They're your ancestors too, you know." Spiderpaw didn't
respond. She barely moved after he said that. "You may not have
been born into this Clan, but you sure belong here. Therefore,
they watch over you, too." he continued, pulling his tail around
his sister. She tucked her nose into his fur, still not saying
anything. "And, to prove it, you'll be my escort to the
MoonTree. You, Lightpaw, and Firedash." his confidence was
returning, his brown fur ruffling up with excitement.
"Go, fetch them. Meet me here, where the fog is thickest. And-
and tell Featherwhisker that he's in charge until we get back."
Morningrose mewed, giving the apprentice a little push. She
stumbled, instinctively pulling her leg towards herself. She
stood still for a moment, before nodding and running off. It
didn't take long for her to gather the others and return to him.
The four cats traveled up to the MoonTree. Firedash stared at
it, his tail wrapped around his apprentice tightly. Lightpaw
hovered nearby, amazed by the shimmery leaves as well.
Morningrose took a deep breath and pulled a leaf off, chewing
it. Spiderpaw couldn't help but giggle when it seemed like he
didn't like the taste all that much. Before long, though, he was
fast asleep, and the apprentices sat awkwardly, protecting his
body while Firedash went for a hunt.
An hour or so later, he awoke. His nose was scrunched up,
probably still from the pain of receiving his ninth life, yet he
seemed stronger. Wiser. Firedash dropped a fish at his paws, and
he ate some of it before passing the remainder to the
apprentices. They finished it off, and the four of them returned
home.
"Morningrose - I'm sorry - I couldn't - I-" Featherwhisker and
Shinefall both ambushed the tom once he was in camp. Firedash
pushed the apprentices towards their nest, but they both still
heard the news.
"She's dead."
Spiderpaw shivered, and Lightpaw brushed his pelt against hers
briefly. The two settled in their nests and, despite not being
that close, Snakepaw brought his own closer. Spiderpaw fell
asleep as they brought the leaders body to the clearing,
allowing those who were still awake to clean her up and prepare
her for burial. They already mourned her death while he was
gone. And, soon enough, she was buried.
It's been a moon since the death of their former leader.
Morningstar had been managing well, yet he still neglected to
appoint a deputy. The cats hoped that was what he would do as he
climbed onto the branch. "Anyone who can catch their own prey,
gather quickly for a meeting!" he purred.
Spiderpaw trotted over, Lightpaw and Snakepaw not too far
behind. The rest of the Clan, even little Owlkit, joined the
meeting as well.
"Thank you, everyone, for bouncing back from our former leader's
death. Experiencing death is not easy, and the death of a loved
one is worse. But, we pulled through, and I'm proud of all of
you, all of us, for doing such." He grinned.
"Now, today, many apprentices will finally be made into
warriors. Greypaw, Blackpaw, Spiderpaw, and Lightpaw. Please,
step forward." Morningstar purred when he mentioned his sister.
Who would've thought that he would have to promote her? "Do you
all promise to uphold the warrior code and protect your Clan
with your life?"
"I do." They buzzed in unison, as Shinefall was still hurriedly
cleaning Lightpaw.
"Then by the power in me, and in the Gods themselves, I name
you, Greyleg, Blackthrush, Spiderscare, and Lightflash. The Clan
admires your intelligence, your strength, your faith, and your
courage. Thank you." In turn, he placed his head on theirs and,
in turn, they licked his shoulder out of respect. As usual, the
Clan chanted their named.
"Greyleg! Blackthrush! Spiderscare! Lightflash!"
"As usual, each of you will sit a vigil. Spiderscare, you will
take tonight, then Blackthrush, then Greyleg, then Lightflash.
Your vigil starts on sunhigh of your day. That is all." He
dipped his head to his Clan, and watched as the siblings, and
Lightflash, chattered excitedly. That is, except for
Spiderscare, who was beaming her joy through her eyes, and not
her mouth.
and now its not a wip woopie

also any names, appearances, how ur cat came into the story is,
just a place holder type thing ok thanks
as well as relations
which ill type in this post so i dont forget
rogue x rogue = spiderscare, flora
daisywing x featherwhisker = greyleg, blackthrush,
birdkit(deceased), spiderscare(adopted)
treefur x rogue = morningstar

smalltail x iceburrow = owlkit, pigeonkit(deceased)
firedash mentored: featherwhisker, iceburrow, spiderscare
featherwhisker mentored: morningstar
morningstar mentored: lightflash
shinefall mentored: greyleg
