DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE? [ open ]
By: Raven` Date: January 4, 2017, 8:04 pm

"And never come back, you soggy scum!" Muddypaw, oh valiant as
he was, happened to chase away a curious, young, npc hazeclan
apprentice. He didn't know if it was for the kid's own good, as
the predators around here would've made him into a great meal.
Maybe he did it because it was his duty to. Whatever the case,
the kid was out across the river, and the siamese needed to head
home.
His fawn colored paws climbed the mountainous rocks with ease,
having done this plenty of times before. It wasn't long before
he found the cave that easily led to their camp. He sniffe the
entrance first, and noted that a much larger animal lingered
here for a bit.
Muddypaw continued into the depths, and with a few turns and
twists, he pushed through the walkway that led into their home.
He dipped his head to the Clan's guards before fluffing out his
fur and freeing any dust and dirt from it.

Lynxpath appeared from one of the many tunnels and stepped into
the main camp circle. He shook his head with annoyance and
quickened his pace to get away from the cause of his less than
pleasant attitude, which happened to be Lightningstar and a
couple warriors dispersing behind him. That was the last time he
was going to lead a patrol with Lightningstar just 'tagging
along'. He wouldn't ever admit it, but she was one of the only
cats who got him irritated over nothing. He couldn't believe he
was once in love with that infuriating..Okay, well, that's a
strong word. She still got on his nerves, though.
Lynxpath breathed out, releasing the tension and relaxing. He
walked across the camp and noticed the apprentice marching into
the camp. He looked as proud as ever, or as usual. Muddypaw
was..an interesting tom, but he also amused him and was very
much a valuable member of the clan. The warrior walked by.
"Hello Muddypaw. How was the walk?"

Muddypaw flicked his ear when he heard his name, turning
slightly to see who was speaking to him. A cheeky grin spread on
his face as he realized it was a warrior, Lynxpath no less.
There was no doubt of Lynxpath and Lightningstar being close at
some point, so he, to Muddypaw, was just another way to a
quicker promotion.
"It was okay, I guess. I found a HazeClan apprentice down by the
river." he huffed the name of the enemy Clan. "He didn't do
anything but shiver. Honestly, I wonder how they train their
apprentices over there, if the first thing he does is shake, and
call for his mother." Muddypaw shook his head, tail lashing
behind him. "I chased him back across the river, so I don't
think he'll be coming back." Great, a good closing to that
story. He proved that he was a great apprentice.
"How about your patrol?" He asked, head tipped slightly. He
could barely remember them leaving, in all honesty.

Lynxpath's eyes widened slightly when the apprentice informed
him of the intruder and how he dealt with it. It wasn't that
uncommon, however, with the war between the clans going on. He
was at least glad to hear it was a fearful apprentice trying to
prove himself and not an actual threat. "Wow. I'm surprised we
didn't catch that on the patrol," he said suspiciously. "We
must've just missed him. Excellent job, Muddypaw."
Lynxpath thought about how exactly to answer his question. "It
was..alright. We didn't catch any suspicious scents, so it's a
good thing you ran into that apprentice," the warrior replied.

He beamed at the praise, tail twitching. "It was nothing. Like I
said, the apprentice was scared. I wouldn't be surprised if he
had just come out of the nursery." His tail lashed as Lynxpath
went on about his patrol, and he forced himself to listen. After
all, he could miss key points. Yet, when the warrior spoke,
Muddypaw couldn't help but feel like he wasted some time.
"Yeah, good thing. Hey, has Lightningstar said anything about, I
dunno, promoting any apprentices soon?" The young tom asked,
head tilted just a little.

Songbird laughed quietly, overhearing the comment by Muddypaw.
The elder approached the two, looking over to the apprentice as
she added her input. "All in good time. If you're patient,
you'll get your promotion eventually. Pushing it may just draw
it out."

"Or, maybe, pushing it may speed it up." Muddypaw countered,
tail swishing. "As much as I love checking your pelt for
fleas, Songbird, I'd much rather be able to leave camp without
asking my mentor each time." he huffed, sitting back on his
haunches and cleaning his paw.

Lynxpath smiled with amusement at their comments. "I'm afraid I
haven't heard anything about that. But I'm sure it'll happen
soon," the warrior replied. The apprentice was about warrior
age, after all. A warrior ceremony couldn't be far off for him.
Although he wasn't eager to speak with the leader at the moment,
maybe he could bring it up.

At Lynxpath's response, Muddypaw visibly grew upset, before
rolling his eyes. "I'm sure you're right. I'm just, really tired
of sitting around and waiting for it, y'know?" he explained,
tail twitching behind him. "When you were an apprentice, how
long did you wait to become a warrior? Days after your birthday?
Weeks?" the fawn point's head tilted a bit.

"I waitd a full six moons," Maplefur was having a, lighter, sort
of day. Which pretty much meant that she got distracted super
easily. "I also didn't push it too much." She noticed the pile
of fresh kill. "Oooh food." And so Maplefur got distracted by
her hunger and left the cats.
