Why Template Theft Needs To Be A Rulebreak
By: Sunshine Date: June 1, 2016, 1:17 am
---------------------------------------------------------
((I couldn't find a board for this, so I'm putting it here))
Templates have began to force their way into Raven's Wing the
same as any roleplaying website. As they appear and as the site
grows, the chances of template theft is becoming greater and
greater. Template theft cannot be allowed because templates take
too much work to be stolen, a form of self expression and are a
work of art.
Have you ever stopped to try and make a template? If you have,
you'll see that in most cases, basic templates take at least
thirty minutes to code. That may not seem like a very long time
however that is only for a basic template. If you are going for
an advanced template, you may be faced with four or more hours
of coding. After doing all that work, it's a real middle finger
to see someone else copy and paste it and then slap on a
copyright.
My next point is that templates are a form of self expression.
Templates are one of the greatest ways to express yourself in
each post without having to hassle about, well, everything.
Templates, although requiring much work to make, are very much
worth the effort and make each and every post more lively and
expressive. Some people like song lyrics, others fun colors, but
with templates you can add all of those. Templates are the
perfect was to use self expression without being in everyone's
face.
My final point is that templates are a form of art. The
dictionary.com definition of art is as follows:
"the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to
aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of
more than ordinary significance." Can't we all agree that
templates fall into that category? Templates are a production of
a maker's creativity. Templates, as stated earlier, are a form
of self expression that are more than "ordinary significance."
Stealing art in the form of drawings is a rulebreak, so why
should stealing templates be any different? Templates and
drawings both fall under the category of art and art is
priceless.
Although stolen template reports would put extra strain on the
Raven's Wing staff members, in the long run wouldn't preserving
the greatness and creativity of templates be worth it?

I agree with sunni
Being a newbie at coding and stuff, It may take me an hour to
make something so simple. Then I still might do something wrong.
When I finally do it right, I am so pleased. only to find
someone took it.
Thats what happened of feral and no one cared. it wad sadd.

plops in to this site for the first time in,,, weeks
& yes yes !! i completely understand ! tbh when ff made that
rule that stealing was basically no longer a rule break, i was
pissed off. you could probs find a thread here that expresses
that anger tbh
but, in all honesty and although not realistic, you could spend
about an hour on a template, and someone else could spend an
hour as well, but you both could come on top with the same exact
template. the chance is v small, but it could happen.
so, how about a compromise? you can report them with links to
the posts where you're 100% sure the person stole it from you,
and we'll pm them and sort it out from there. if they said they
made it, and without any proper proof that it was yours, i can't
do much. if you did make it, then i can tell them to copyright
you, and ask them to send you an apology. if they refuse to
copyright, then we'll start removing the fancy post from their
posts

That sounds perfect! Just yesterday, I found somebody had stolen
one of my fancies. Because FF had made it no longer a rulebreak,
I couldn't do anything but talk to them. Of course, they were
rude as hell. Frisky, it was actually one that I made you a
while ago in the old shop. The one with the two sister cats, the
sun and the moon one.
