Vani was sprawled out on the grassy floor near the edge of camp,
gnawing on the leg bone of a rabbit. The crunch of bones between
her teeth satisfied her; almost like a strange addiction. It was
also something to do while she was bored, as she was at this
moment.

Firework entered the camp, recently returned from a border
patrol. Everything seemed to be okay now, ever since they got
back. Noticing his half-sister alone, he trotted over and mewed,
"Hey, Vani, how're you doing?"

"Oh, hi, Firework." She raised her gaze, flicking her ear in
greeting. "Decent, you?"

"Pretty good. Kinda tired from the patrol I was on," he
responded, glad she seemed to have warmed up to him, at least
somewhat.

She shrugged. "What kind of patrol?" She asked, hoping to keep a
good conversation going to avoid awkwardness.

"A border patrol. Since we returned home, I thought it would be
a good idea to send them out more often to make sure nothing
like that would happen again," he explained.
