Guardianpaw slowly walked into camp, a measly pigeon hanging
from his maw. He had an assessment, and through his eyes, had
failed it. Seriously, only a pigeon? A kitten could catch a
pigeon. The tom found himself digging his claws into the ground
in frustration with himself.

Ashlee was in camp, sniffing around the fresh-kill pile. She
looked up to see Guardianpaw enter in with his own catch. A
pretty small one, but the young Abyssinian tried to hold back
any mean comments, since she knew this was his assessment. She
was paired up with him, she knew these things. She gave up
looking for a meal for now and walked over to him. "How'd it
go?" Oops, maybe that wasn't what she should have said. Oh well,
he could handle it.

[s]i read the title to this after i posted it (i was listening
to music and just put in lyrics) and i realized that, like, if
guardianpaw graded himself to harshly, he could soooo turn to
catnip. but not like bluepaw catnip. i dont want him having
kids. more like, stress relieving catnip. every once in a while
leaving camp, taking some catnip and letting himself trip out.
that kind of thing. and, like, bringing other close friends with
him every once in a while (nothing happens of course) and yeah.
just the title of this thread gave me major plot ideas[/s]
"How'd it go?" he repeated, tossing the bird onto the pile and
frowning. "How do you think it went? Terrible, Ashlee. Just
terrible. I'm pretty freaking sure that I scared away every last
piece of prey ever in this forest. I nearly crossed over one of
those damned boarders three times." he ruffled his fur, forcing
himself to breathe slowly. [b]"The bird was just a lucky catch.
The damned thing hit a branch and broke something on the way
down. I just put it out of its misery."

and maybe at first his friends are like, going with him and even
trying it out as well. then maybe later he gets more addicted to
it and they start to see what it's doing to him and they try to
help him out of it?? idk maybe
also i feel like it's easier to come up with plots when you're
listening to songs like?? it's great )
Ashlee frowned. Okay, maybe he wasn't going to tough it out like
she thought he would. "Come on, don't be so hard on yourself.
It's not like you have to become a warrior tomorrow, there is
plenty of time for improvement," the Abyssinian said simply,
hoping it would lift his spirits a bit. "And I'm pretty sure
Petrichor will understand. He's a good teacher, he'll help you
get better. Isn't that what an assessment is for? To see what
you need to work on and help you improve?"

He glared at her for a moment before bringing his paw to his
face and cleaning it. "I guess it is.." he muttered into his
paw, his eyes focusing on her paws. He put his paw down, "But
still. I feel... embarrassed. I did terrible when I know I could
do better. I panicked and I fucked it up." the young tom allowed
the swear word out, only hoping that his mother wasn't around to
yell at him for it.

Ashlee hesitated before speaking this time. He had a point. She
would be ashamed too if she had failed something that miserably,
especially knowing she was quite a good hunter. But there was no
way she was going to give up on cheering the grumpy fellow up.
It was her mission now. Well, maybe she'd just try to make him a
little less upset, he was always grumpy or annoyed somehow.
"That's alright. Everybody makes mistakes. Even uh..even me,"
she told him. She didn't really like admitting that. She thought
she was pretty close to perfect. "Like I said, don't beat
yourself up. You're smart, you'll get better,

"Even you?" Guardianpaw quirked an eyebrow. If he knew anything
about Ashlee, she wasn't one to talk about her own flaws. "You
mean, you, the great lithe hunter Ashlee, makes mistakes?"
although he was still majorly ticked off for his own mistake,
his partner put out something he could pick at in fun and hope
she would catch on. He put on a small smirk (which was identical
to his father's, even though he never met the man.) "Wow, I
should really tell Hal and Clap this. Ashy has flaws." he
chuckled quietly, slightly happier now that he found a segway
into a different topic, even though his mistake would still
plague him.

Ashlee held in a groan and if she could facepalm, she would
have. Actually, she probably could, but that's not the point.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, letting him finish before
quickly adding in a few words in her defense. "Yeah, yeah, go
ahead! You're lucky I do make a few mistakes, otherwise I'd
probably be next in line for RainClan leader by now. Don't get
too excited," she teased, smirking playfully. Oh yeah, no way
had she given up on that dream yet.

"You want to be Clan leader?" he paused, then chuckled slightly.
"I should've expected so." he observed her and compared her to
his mental image of Fallingstar. Fallingstar was nice, calm
during rough situations, and overall a naive she-cat. Ashlee, in
Guardianpaw's eyes, was probably the opposite. She had her nice
points, but she was just as rough as him. And she would probably
jump into any conflict she could. But, hey. She was still young,
maybe she could grow to be a nice young she-cat. Not that he
would care. Haha. Nope. Not even a bit.
"What would your name be, anyways? Like, if you were to be
leader one day?" he asked, keeping the topic going so that he
could avoid his guilt a bit longer. "Would you be Ashstar?
Leestar? Ashleestar?" he laughed. [b]"The first one sounds the
most like a normal warrior name."

Ashlee tilted her head and looked up thoughtfully, as if now
realizing the issue. "Huh, that's a good question," she answered
with a giggle. Then she shrugged. "Eh, it probably doesn't
matter, though. Who says I need to have star at the end of my
name anyway? Night doesn't. Neither does Keegan, or Vegas. Even
if I do, I guess Ashleestar isn't that bad," she laughed. It was
a little weird, talking about the far away aspiration like there
was no doubt it would happen. But it was nice. It made her
future seem more real and tangible, not scary as some might
think.
