Nightmarekit whimpered. Ironically, he was asleep, having a
nightmare. Whimpering again, he cried out, waking up
immediately, curling into a ball. The kitten tended to have bad
dreams. His mother had died when he was born and was unable to
name him, and he had gotten his name from how often these
occurred. After a couple of minutes, had had calmed down enough
to relax his muscles and get to his tiny paws. The pitch black
kitten trotted out of the nursery, looking up at the night sky.
He continued to walk, leaving the camp.

Snowballpaw was, conveniently, up in a tree close to the camp.
She slept in a ball at the base of a branch, while her slow
breathing caused her stomach to rise and fall. Peaceful thoughts
eased her mind. Slowly, as the dream grew darker, she awoke. The
crunching of small paws against the snow pulled at her natural
curiosity, and the apprentice peered over the edge of the
branch. It was that kitten, Nightmarekit, she recalled. She
remembered him wandering around the territory, without a care,
and here he was again. StarClan, what was he thinking? She
watched him, wondering if she should confront him or not.
Somewhat quietly, Snowballpaw gripped and leapt down the tree
trunk. Maybe she should at least find out what he was up to.

He heard a small crunch in the snow and immediately looked
around, scared he had been caught. When Nightmarekit didn't see
anyone around him, he looked ahead again and continued to walk,
heading for a spot he had found where he could sit and be alone
for a while.

Snowballpaw blinked, watching the tom kitten stop and then start
again. Did he not notice her...? Haha, yeah! She was stealthier
than she thought. A small smirk of pride crawled onto her face
as she began following Nightmarekit in silence. Wait a minute,
was she stalking him? A little boy? Why was she doing this
again? Well, she didn't want to scare him. She would wait for
when the time was right. And hopefully that time was before he
caught her.

Nightmarekit quickly glanced around again, hoping nobody had
followed him. He didn't think anybody knew about this place, and
he wanted it to stay that way. This was his place. Slipping
between two trees into a concealed area, he sat on a rock
overlooking a tiny pond and just stayed there, silently. He
watched the small critters around the pond. Frogs sitting
nearby, fish swimming freely, and birds perching on branches. He
came her often enough that they were no longer afraid of him
when he sat near them. They knew he wouldn't hurt them. Letting
out a soft sigh, he looked down at the water, at his reflection.

Well, that was true, until now. Snowballpaw smiled, her green
eyes examining the secluded area. Small frogs freely sat at the
edge of the pond, as if they felt no danger here, even with the
young kit sitting nearby. She attempted to take a step forward,
maybe to somehow approach Nightmarekit with out frightening him,
when nature decided to make fun of her effort to stay quiet. A
twig snapped beneath one of her quivering paws. Crap. There goes
that plan, and the thin line of trust she thought she had with
the tom kit.

He immediately turned towards her, narrowing his eyes.
Nightmarekit saw the critters disappearing and hissed softly at
the apprentice, deciding to do the same. He ran from the area,
upset. That had been his place, and she had ruined it! How could
she? he thought, searching for a hiding spot. The small kitten
quickly hid between the roots of a tree, just barely squeezing
in.

"W-wait! Don't go!" Snowballpaw cried, bounding a few steps
before giving up. That went well, didn't it? She thought about
what to do. She couldn't just leave him there like that. Even
though now she wasn't so worried about his safety, it was the
fact that she came out here just to ruin someone's night left an
unsettled feeling in the pit of her stomach. Snowballpaw began
following his scent as she wondered about what to say.

He curled into a ball, hoping his scent faded quickly. There was
nothing he could do now. Night squeezed his eyes shut and
whimpered, keeping quiet after that.

"Hello??" she called out, slowly making her way around the area
he had disappeared. "Hellooo?? I..don't know if you can hear
me...I'm sorry about whatever I did to make you upset, I just
don't think it's safe for you to be out here alone and-"
Snowballpaw stopped yelling, sniffing the air again. She
honestly didn't know who was on the right side here. She should
have approached him sooner, but he could just be overreacting
about this whole thing, right? He should know to stay in camp!
Wait, was that even a rule anymore? The only one who seemed to
care about this was her.
