Bookkit lifted his head from snuggling between his front legs,
sleepily stretching open his bright yellow optics. He brought
them up to his mother carrying in some prey, which caused his
mouth the water with hunger. "Can I have some?" he asked
hopefully, but quietly, as he slowly stood to his paws and
swiped his tongue over his maw.

Winterpaw peered at her son, placing the mouse next to him.
"Hmmm... I don't know..." she said with general concern,
although her voice held more to it then it usually did. It had
an underlay of a motherly tone, along with a bit of taunting.
"Can you chew it yourself?" She asked in a quiet, teasing tone
as she smiled. She meant it in a joking way, and began worrying
that she had hurt her son's feelings afterwards.

His heart sunk at her first reaction. That wasn't fair! He could
chew just fine! After staring into her eyes with shock and
sadness for a moment or two, it suddenly caught on that she was
totally joking about it. An embarrassed grin quickly replaced
his frown and his ears sat upright once again. "Yes I can!" he
giggled softly, attempting to push against her foreleg with his
paw playfully.

She purred and nodded, attempting to lick his forehead. "Eat
until your hearts content." She told him, smiling. The female
nudged the mouse toward him and sat down, tail curled around her
paws. She enjoyed time with her children; it actually made her
feel like she was doing something right.

Bookkit instantly began purring as she swiped her tongue over
his small cranium. The orange and white kitten crouched down
into a comfortable position to bite into the rodent hungrily. He
happily savored the satisfying taste, his smiling eyes clearly
enjoying it. After swallowing the first piece, Bookkit looked up
at his mother. "Mom?"
