"Coalst- Coalfang?" Decembersnow corrected herself as she
searched for the tom. She wanted some quality time with him.

Coalfang was about to head into his den when he heard the former
medicine cat's voice speaking. That was weird, hearing his
warrior name again instead of Coalstar. Especially from Deccy,
who had always known him as the AshClan leader.
The dark tabby turned around, a faint smile stretching his maw.
"Yes?" he replied, his pale green orbs resting on hers. They
weren't as excited as they used, in fact, they weren't really
excited at all. They were relieved, and sort of sad. He didn't
like it much, but unless the new leaders were going to change
some things around this quiet place, it probably wasn't going to
get much better.

"That's your name now, right?" she questioned, tipping her head
to the side as she faced him. "I've heard a couple cats say that
was your warrior name, so I assumed..." she trailed off.

Coalstar chuckled, walking up to her. She was so cute, even
being the womanly and mature she-cat she was. The way she acted
all unsure and polite was adorable to him. "You can call me
whatever you want," he purred, smirking slightly. "But yeah,
that's it." Nah, he wasn't a total downer. I mean, he had Deccy,
what more could he want?

She purred, putting on a smile. "Then I'll just stick with Coal.
At least I know that it'll never change." She giggled. "Unless
you decide to change your name to something else, which I hope
you don't. I can't think of you with any other title." She said,
walking closer to him. She pushed herself to her hind legs,
balancing so she could nuzzle his cheek. She silently damned her
short legs as she licked his cheek as a kiss. "So, how are you?
Are you getting used to being a warrior?"

Coalfang gladly let the small she-cat place a soft kiss on his
cheek, soon after returning the favor with a gentle lick over
her ear. The sudden realization came back to him, remembering
the chip on her ear. He mentally shook the thoughts away,
though. This wasn't the time.
"Ha, I don't think I ever will. But it is a lot
less...stressful," Coalstar admitted, knowing he'd only ever
admit to something like that to his mate. He was very proud of
his position as leader, and it was very hard to give it up. He
had started the Clan, after all. "And how are you, my dear?" he
purred, attempting to touch his nose to hers.

She purred quietly, curling her tail around her legs. "I'm doing
a lot better, knowing that you don't have to put yourself
through all that stress." she said, flicking her ear. "But...
I... I still worry about Winterpaw. I don't doubt your choice
but..." Decembersnow trailed off, not knowing how to continue.

Coalfang stayed silent for a moment, his green eyes gently on
her icy blue ones. To be honest, he was worried too. He knew how
anxious his daughter was, and how she used to constantly get
panic attacks over both little and big things. He knew that this
was a difficult change of fate for her, but if she was anything
like him, she'd overcome it.
"I know," he agreed with a sigh, glancing down at his paws. No
regret dared to show in his eyes, though. He didn't know why,
but something told him that he made the right choice, and that
someday, it would be clear why Winterpaw was meant for this.
Even if Decembersnow didn't believe that, she was trusting in
him and that's all he wanted from her. "She can do this, Deccy,"
he assured her, looking back up at the careful munchkin.

"But what if she isn't... leader material?" Decembersnow dared
to ask. She let her gaze rest on his as she contemplated her own
question, then she smiled calmly. "Oh, what am I saying? Of
course she's leader material. I mean, she at least has leader
blood - most cats don't even have that." she talked down her own
question, standing up again. "She'll do... just fine..."
although the she-cat found it easy to talk herself down, she
still worried about the well-being of her daughter. Well,
hopefully the small she-cat would come around if she had issues.
The munchkin nudged his paw with her own. "How about we go for a
hunt to clear our minds?" she purred.
