I know this was turned into a chat thread but im to lazy to make
a new thread.

Once the new Medicine Cat was congradulated by a majority of her
Clanmates, Pheo took a deep breath. "That said..." she started,
trying to find the right words. "Everyone here knows my story,
right? My parents were killed, and I was taken in to the
Medicine Den. I was raised in that den and, even though I loved
every bit of it, it never felt right." She smiled sadly, not
believing what she was doing. "I fell in love. I had kits. I
broke the only rules that a Medicine Cat followed strictly. And
all because I never believed in myself being a real Medicine
cat. I still don't."
"Everyone, I am demoting myself. I dont feel right being in
there, as I said." She repeated. "It feels better to spend time
with my children, not herbs. To chase prey, not search for
plants." The reddish she cat sighed again, small tears dripping
from her eyes. She was doing it. She was removing herself from
the job she strived for ever since she was told her parents died
of green cough. She was really doing it.
"Stygianflare, I know you were just promoted and you have kits
of your own, but since Glitterglue hasn't been around much, you
must also step up as head Medicine Cat. And Mazedpaw... I wanted
to train you until the end, but I just couldnt take the
confinement anymore. I'm sure Glitterglue and Stygianflare can
both mentor you. And even if they can't, you can still come to
me if its fine with them. Its the best I can do after leaving
the team on such short notice."

Stygianflare was shocked. Streamflow had been her mentor first,
and then Glitterglue, but Streamflow was dead and Glitterglue
hadn't been around in a very long time. Now even Phoenixfeather
was stepping down? She didn't let herself say anything, not
wanting to protest.

Mazey looked shocked as well, and even looked as if she was
about to cry. She opened her mouth to say something but closed
them together, just staring at Pheo in disbelief.

Fallingstar was very shocked, and sad to see her step down, but
when she thought about it, she was very proud of her medicine
cat to give up this responsibility she had been working for her
whole life for her kits and everything else she needed.
The gray bengal stood up. "Do you mind if I..say something?"

"What?!" Riv peeped quietly in shock. She'd always looked up to
the nice, fun medic, and now she was demoting herself? That
wasn't right. She-- she was too awesome! The silver tabby looked
down disappointedly.
Downkit wore an outraged face. No, this couldn't be! Her awesome
mom who she loved so much just [i]quitting?[/I]

Fallingstar nodded a thank you and stepped up, clearing her
throat a little before speaking to the bewildered crowd. "We are
all very shocked to hear this news, and I understand some of you
may even have negative feelings about this. We all loved our
dear medicine cat, who, for some of us, just grew up right
before our eyes. We don't want to see her go, but you see, she
isn't going anywhere. She isn't failing any of us. And most of
all, she is not quitting on us.
While we may think she is throwing away everything she has lived
for, we're wrong. Just because she is stepping down, it does not
mean her heart for the Clan as changed. For living almost her
whole life serving the Clan, don't you think she might want to
pour life into her own kittens as well? I completely trust
Phoenixfeather knows what she is doing here. She knows
Stygianflare is ready to take her place, and I believe that. She
even offered to keep mentoring Mazedpaw.
Of course, we can never replace Phoenixfeather, and we never
will. We will never forget the lives she's touched and healed.
And I know she will continue to do so, even as a normal
warrior." Fallingstar looked towards Pheo with a small smile on
her face and tears pooling under her pretty green orbs. "I know
we're not very close, Phoenixfeather, but I love you all the
same. I'm so proud of the life you've lived so far. Just
remember that you are as much apart of the Clan as you were
before. You are our Phoenixfeather, whom we all know and love,"
she finished, dipped her head and stepping back as the former
medic had down.

After the speech and what seemed to be a forever silence, Mazey
lifted her chin to the sky and started cheering Phoenixfeather's
name.
