Phoenixfeather rested near the fresh-kill pile, yawning. She was
bored, and with nothing to do. She could train her apprentice,
but Mazedpaw was still with her kittens half the time, or
goofing off. Sigh. She could talk to her children... but
honestly, she thought they hated her..

mother. Why'd she look so blue? She must feel lonely without her

She paused and blinked. "Is it? Can I be an apprentice now?" Oh
no, she hadn't been keeping track of how many moons she was! How
would she ever know when she was old enough to go out of camp
alone? Downkit imagined being an elder and still having to stay
in the nursery because no one knew her real age.
