He decided since he was deputy and all, that he should try to be
a little more active around here. He'd been pretty lame lately.
The young tom also wanted to finally get to know his clanmates
better. He knew their names, but not them! Nerfpaw sat near the
middle of camp eating the vole he picked out for breakfast, and
waited for some others to come around and join him.

Toothpaw noticed the new deputy munching on a vole and decided
to head over and join him, grabbing a fat mouse on the way.
Besides his siblings, the young tom didn't really know anybody.
He often seemed shy, but he really, he just had his paws full
all the time with Floatingpaw and Emberpaw clinging to him like
leaches. "Hey," he meowed, words somewhat muffled by the chubby
rodent in his mouth. The brown tabby dropped the piece of prey
in front of him to be heard more clearly. "Can I join you?"

"Thanks," he murmured, sitting down and slipping on a smile that
unintentionally made his tooth obvious. He knew it was there, of
course, but he tried to ignore it. "I'm doing okay, you?"

She just stared with her always-beautiful icy gaze for a moment
longer then turned her head and walked away.

Toothpaw looked confused at the deputy's unusual reaction. Well,
maybe not unusual for her. The apprentice turned back to
Nerfpaw. "That was weird..." he murmured quietly, then bent down
to finally grab a bite from the mouse.
