i've given up, damn the dawn ( open ) it ain't never gonna come

The kitten was awake. The sun had not yet risen even though it
was close, and he hadn't slept. He had always been like this,
though. Ever since--since what? He was just a kitten, wasn't he?
Desolate sighed and rested his head on his paws, exhausted yet
not able to fall asleep.

Rivulet was awake too. She only had trouble sleeping when she
was nervous or distracted, and this happened to be one of those
nights. It was her first night in this new place, and she was
scared. The gray tabby grumbled to herself and rolled over. She
saw the figure of another kitten who was unable to sleep and
smiled. She wasn't alone! "Psst. Hi!" Rivulet mewed to the brown
tom, getting up and bouncing over to him.

Clapkit just refused to sleep. Sleep was boring, and the outside
world was just waiting for him! The kitten stepped forward to
the other two, smiling childishly, only because he felt he
always needed to be happy. "Can I play too?" he asked
cheerfully, eyeing the too with his one eye. His left eyelids
sealed off his empty socket.

He rolled his eyes. "Go ahead, you two. I want to rest for a
little bit since I didn't sleep."

"Game?" an Abyssinian she-kit, Ashlee, popped her head up out of
her fuzzy curled up self, then quickly unraveled out of a ball
and hurried over to them. "Don't you dare start without me!" she
whispered sharply, her eyes wide with energy as if she had never
been sleeping.
