streamflow had something to tell roanoke. she'd received a
strange and scary dream a night ago and she'd been in denial
about its message, but now she was simply terrified. "roa?" she
called for the warrior. she wanted to tell him first, since he
was one of her closest friends.

Roanoke had been taking a nap in his den, eyes closing. When his
name was called, he brushed it off, thinking it was someone
else's name. Then he had one of those moments where he relayed
the words and found out what they really meant. He rumbled and
stood up, walking outside to meet Streamflow, still tired. "Is
there something you need, Flo?"

"Yeah, um." She looked at the ground, trying to stay strong. Her
voice cracked as she spoke again, "I'm gonna die!"

Roanoke stared blankly, everything becoming white noise. "Wh...
what?" he looked at her. She didn't seem hurt or ill. Why was
she going to die? "Flo, this is a joke, isn't it? A cruel, sick
joke?" his voice cracked.

Tears started flowing out of her eyes, but she didn't care.
She'd be gone in a few days anyway. "My mom told me. In a
d-dream."

Roanoke couldn't cry, but he did have that feeling in his throat
when he held back a sob.
