they hadn't gone too far

Three little kits headed towards the fresh-kill pile, one of
which stumbled over his own big feet. Toothkit let out an
irritated grumble as his face landed in the dirt, smudging the
deformed fang sitting outside of his mouth and over lapping his
bottom lip. Floatingkit stopped to help him up before gracefully
prancing over to the circle of meat. Emberkit walked in front of
the three and was the first to spot Heartkit and Puffykit as
they entered the camp. "Hey!" He called, impressed to see kits
leave camp and come back without being caught, noticed, or
yelled yet. The tom had been considering giving it a try, but
the adults were always around when he wanted to leave camp.

The handsome ginger's eyes glimmered with pleasure as the two
shes replied in greeting. "What do I call the two escapees?"
Emberkit questioned smoothly, his long tail flagging up into the
air above him.
Toothkit coughed up dust before flopping down on his rump and
moving his gaze towards Puffykit and Heartkit.
Floatingkit sat down beside Toothkit, secretly letting her eyes
roll with amusement. Emberkit seemed to have found more she-cats
worthy of his flirtatious greetings, he was still a little rusty
at it, but he was only a kit! Though it was true he would become
an apprentice someday soon.
