Berryflight wandered close to the border with several leaves
clamped in her jaws. She was almost done with her herb search
for the day and was eager to head back to her den. She just
didn't like being out alone, even if she now knew her way
around, unlike that one time she lost herself near SerpentClan.
However, her intentions turned around when she scented a certain
someone. Firework! But what was he doing here? She quickly
dropped her bundle under a bush before darting in his direction,
but decided to slow down before she reached his eyesight. The
medicine cat didn't want to seem too excited. She calmly
approached him and revealed her usual soft smile. "Firework?"

He smiled slightly. "Hey, Berry. So, I heard you were promoted,"
Firework purred, taking a few steps closer. The heir didn't
cross the border, not wanting to trespass, even if he did want
to be closer to her. "I'm happy for you.

Blush covered her cheeks as she shuffled one paw around, smiling
shyly. "Mhm!" she confirmed, trying to control the excitement
flooding over her. Why did she have to feel so weird around him?
"Thank you so much," she purred gratefully, then bravely took a
small step over the border to break the barrier between them.
She made sure to not stand right in his face though. That would
just be awkward, ad it'd freak her out.

The young tom nuzzled her, not caring if she thought he was
weird. "I'm sorry that I could come sooner. I came to see you as
soon as I could," Firework explained, smiling softly. He didn't
completely understand why he felt like this around her, but
whenever she was near, he'd be happier, kinder. It wasn't that
he didn't like the feeling, it was just that he was always
nervous around her, like he didn't want to let her down.

Berryflight stood stiff for a second or two with shyness as he
leaned in to nuzzle her, then she relaxed and attempted to rub
her muzzle against his cheek before he pulled back. These
emotions, she had mixed feelings about them. They made her
extremely happy, nervous, and shy, and she knew exactly why.
Stupid girly hormones. Sure, she was a full medicine cat, but a
young medicine cat at that. She wasn't quite finished with her
teenage feelings quite yet.
Or maybe that was just what falling in love was like for
everybody, but either way, it was hard to control. Berryflight
could never really hide her emotions anyway. To see me? The heir
of SerpentClan? A small, joyful smile continued to light up her
face. "It's perfectly alright. I know you're busy with your heir
duties or whatever," she assured, trying her best not to
stammer. Oh, she was so awkward. Still, Firework didn't seem to
mind it, and that was confidence enough for her.

He relaxed a bit when she said that. That made it a bit easier
to be here, knowing she wouldn't be angry at him. Firework
asked, "So, want to take a walk with me?"

Berryflight nodded eagerly, still smiling. "Sure!" she purred
and began walking next to Firekwork further into unowned
territory. "I'm really glad you came, Firework," the medicine
cat added, her gray-ringed tail swishing back and forth to the
rhythm of her pace.
