OPEN, BREAKDOWN ) I'M OUT ON THE EDGE

jasper had been taking a walk when it happened. everything was
normal until . . . bam! everything in the territory was on fire!
he ran to camp, fear striking his heart. everybody was dead,
their eyes gouged out and their throats torn out.
but one death hurt him the most: night, his beloved mate. her
fate was identical to the rest: pretty violet eyes he had loved
to look into ripped out, her throat just an empty space filled
with blood. he pressed his face into her crimson-stained fur,
weeping loudly. "NIGHT! please come back to me! i need you, i
love you!" he shrieked. he could hear emde's menacing laughter
in the distance.
but this was not real. this was schizophrenia.
his whole life was a severe case of schizophrenia.

Night didn't know what to think. She just heard Jasper shouting
her name, screaming even. Afraid, the silver and black egyptian
mau exited her den and saw her mate, crying. But over what?
There was nothing there. The leader approached the tom
cautiously, worry filling her eyes. "Jasper? Are you okay?"

and then the hallucination faded and shock replaced his fear and
sadness. "it was a hallucination." he breathed, looking at the
ground for a while before looking at her.
"my whole life has been a hallucination."

Night rose an invisible eyebrow before leaning down to give the
tom's forehead a lick. "Not your whole life..." she murmured,
trying to calm him.

his eyes flashed with uncertainty as she tried to soothe him.
"night . . . are you even my mate?" he asked softly, tears
stinging his eyes. his undying love for her was real, but had
their relationship just been fake all along? "or was that a
hallucination as well?"

Night was shocked, obviously. Was he questioning her love for
him? Or was this an after shock of... of... whatever he just
went through? She took a deep breath and shook her head. "Of
course I'm your mate, Jasper. I love you, and only you. Not one
bit of our relationship is a hallucination."

he let out a breath of pure relief, his golden optics soft with
love. "good, because i know my love for you is real." he said
with a weak smile. "my hallucination . . . i saw you. you were
dead, your beautiful violet eyes gouged out, your throat ripped
out. it was horrible."

The femme paused for a moment, then attempted to give the bridge
of his nose a lick. "Well, that was a horrid hallucination. But
I'm here, bright and alive. My throat clean of cuts and my eyes
still as beautiful as you say they are." She purred to him,
laying down.
